Your various flocks look very good and work well. The colour is spot on. What flocks did you use?

The pre-game I really enjoyed was the PP Lincoln's War 1998 rules. Here there was an off table whole game map with maneuverings off the table. I thought it gave a very historical 'To the sound of the guns' feel to many of the Civil war battles, as players rushed their brigades to the action.

Civil War Battles / Re: BATTLE DAY 9TH JULY 2022

COW Hard core or what! This picture shows the gathering about to re-enact Pickets charge. I can't quite remember the details or even the year but I think the paper plates are significant and were thrown Frisbee style. Gosh everyone looks so young. The late Paddy Griffith may have organised this session.

Terrain and Figures / Re: Sale on W&N brushes

Having checked out the A S Handover website there are rather a lot of great looking brushes here...John which would you recommend? I like the look of this.

...and whats more the Royal family uses them...obviously due to data protection issues Martin can't tell us which royal will be painting up their PP minis using these brushes as I type.

I used to use the W&N Kolinsky sable brushes for a long time believing them to  be the best but I now use the Rosemary series 401. Rosemary do make  Kolinsky sable brushes but I find the series 401 with a synthetic mix to be more hard wearing and a better 'feel' for the surface your painting. Here I find the Kolinsky too soft. The Series 401 3/0 7" handle is my go to brush for 15 mils and at £2,55 what a bargin! I got quite excited by some micro detail brushes on the site but I found them not to really hold enough paint for me to get them to work.

However I appreciate the use of brushes can be a very personal thing for uz artists. I will check out the Handover brushes.

General discussion / Re: One hour war games
May 17, 2022, 09:12:29 PM
I found the one hour war game rules just a little too simplistic and lacking in chrome. For example his ancients rules only have four types of troops. Infantry, archers, skirmishers and cavalry! So where are the other troop types which make ancients so interesting? Elephants. Pikes...etc. To be fair these are in his other books. However as mentioned the OHW  book does have 30 scenarios which many wargamers have picked up on for use in their games using different rules. These scenarios draw from a number of historical and other interesting sources including the Avalon hill Panzer Blitz board game!

Conquerors and Kings / Re: Historic battles
January 31, 2022, 03:10:51 PM
Well I think recreating a historical battle is an important measure for a set of rules. There was a recent set which couldn't reproduce the ' Cannae effect' so had to include an amendment. I see no reason why C&K can't look to do this. After all we have Phil Sabin's Lost Battle book. The battles in his book can be easily lifted as they are laid out in a grid format. Hmmm thinking about it, the battles on the Command and colors could also be tried. Here's Cannae

Quite an impressive list of battles

I was told by guys at my club that the reason for a PDF release is so they can be play tested before a proper printed release.

General discussion / Re: Really Useful Question
October 22, 2021, 06:06:58 PM
What would be really useful is some foam trays which actually fit in the useful boxes. I seem to remember seeing this company's trays which were fitted in a box at a show. Sorry only depth is given, just wondering which would be useful for piggy purposes?Any body using them?

AK47 Republic / ak47 day photos
October 13, 2021, 10:59:57 PM
Big MIke has said it's OK for me to put one of his photos on my Wargames group FB page (Leighton Buzzard) as the photo includes other folks does anyone object? I'm only going to use the photo of the airport which also shows Simon, me and another.

AK47 Republic / Re: Photography of War

Well I always felt in the AK47 game you should get points for getting a photographer or film crew in to certain areas. For example a helicopter crash site and should the overall commander be there for an interview well that's gotta be extra points. Of course there is nothing stopping you from doing so.

At the old Brixcon someone did have a TV crew in a van.

General discussion / Re: Anyone with a 3D printer
August 14, 2021, 03:17:59 PM
In the UK there are quite a few 'Maker spaces'. Here in Milton Keynes we have one which is part of the Men in Sheds organisation. I was in there yesterday and counted five 3D printers, which I believe they made themselves. I've found the group to be very helpful, they trained me up on their Laser cutter. I've yet to use the printers. However you can find a list of Maker spacers with Machines here.
