Although I am leaving the forum under a cloud I do so with no animosity in my heart and I understand Martin's reasoning in wanting me gone (Martin if you ever take the red pill you will understand why I am angry).

Thank you to everybody who helped me with hints and tips during my time here. Keep working on your lead mountains and enjoy your gaming.

All the best,
Mike

Half of death by brown paint completed (4 regiments of Parliamentarian horse - 64 figures); 4 regiments of Royalist horse to go.

That is the last of my Salute 2018 swag, once that is complete I can reward myself with a star fort at Vapnartak and start a shopping list for Salute!

Beautiful figures as always, Radar. What paints did you use for the helmets?

I ve been relieably informed by younger members of my crew who know about computer games etc, that this should be quite good, as it is the same people who developed Grand Theft Auto so apparently it should be pretty good game play.

I am shocked that glorification of filth like Grand Theft Auto is allowed on this forum. I am assuming for now the OP writer and Administrators of this forum are unaware of GTA's connection with Red Dead Redemption 2?

To cut a long story short: Grand Theft Auto is an ultra-violent game where players are encouraged to steal cars and kill police officers. The children who play this game can also engage in buying, beating, raping or killing prostitutes for their pleasure. This "game" really is the complete opposite of wholesome family entertainment.

I know all you guys have done a thousand and one head swaps, but I still feel compelled to post a photo of my first attempt. Time taken approx 25 minutes. I am sure things will speed up with future attempts.

PP Professional becomes 32 Battalion or Rhodesian.

I did the same head swap for my RLI, although being quite anal I filed down the cap peak to flatten it and filled in the dovetail on the neck flap giving it more of a Rhodesian look and less Portuguese  :o

Thank you for your advice regarding Rhodesian headdress Rakkasan, I am now filing down the the caps of my Rhodesian troopies. However, an old photograph gives me a little historical wriggle room for my original figures.

;)

Mike it was intended to be  a light hearted comment, not a discussion upon conscription. It was your chance to vent some humour. No one suggested  the introduction of conscription. Sorry if you took it to be a real desire to introduce conscription. Just ignore this topic Mike, no offence to you was intended.

I apologize Martin, I was out of order and should never have voiced my personal grievances regarding the leadership of the modern army in this topic.

Nice work on the faces of figures 1&3 in particular, when viewing from L to R.

One day I will get around to converting some standard figures into custom mercenaries from the Angolan civil war.  Think along the lines of non politically correct characters like Col. Callan, "Shotgun Charlie" Christodoulou, etc. I don't know if that can be called wild or not?

I also need to assemble the human and animal characters of Daktari in 15mm for a Rhodesian bush war hostage rescue scenario.

Thank you for posting War Monkey, what figures are those? Does anyone here colour code the base edges of individually mounted troops to make sub-unit recognition easier in larger battles?

I will not be joining up even though there appears to a desire by some here to introduce conscription for such a force.

In my view 54mm is where wargaming gets silly. Scales smaller than 20mm are great but large models no matter how well painted look like toys to me. The 54mm fanboys should stick to building dioramas.

Have you ever been in Britain for the Christmas period? September to December 27th, when the super markets strip out the Christmas decorations and the first Easter eggs appear.  >:(

I always loved Christmas as a child because everything shut down for three days and there was peace and quite, and time for family and a ghost story for Christmas (not forgetting the presents eagerly awaited by us children).

Germany was great when I first got here but it is now slowly but surely following the UK along the path to hell. I fully support the old Ladenschlussgesetz laws and would reimpose them tomorrow if I could.

Unhappy consumers
The road that Germany took to reach its more consumer-friendly store hours was long and bumpy. For 40 years German consumers suffered under a law passed in 1956. With only minor revisions, German shopping hours — and German shoppers — were stuck in the 1950s — until 1996. During those four decades, stores could only remain open from 7:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on weekdays and only until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Only once a month (and during the Christmas season) were stores allowed to stay open two hours later on "long Saturdays."

Never on Sunday
But one thing has yet to change. Shopping on Sunday is still verboten! Although there are some exceptions, Sunday is still a day of rest for shoppers in Germany. If you want to buy anything on Sonntag, you'll have to go to a train station, an airport, or a gas station mini-mart. (See the few exceptions in some states below.)

Germany's draconian Ladenschlussgesetz (store-closing law) had no major revisions until October 1989 with the introduction of the "long Thursday," der lange Donnerstag. On that one day of the week stores were allowed to remain open until 8:30 p.m.

Finally, in 1996, the German parliament (Bundestag) granted German shoppers a long-awaited wish. In the month before Christmas, starting November 1, stores were allowed to remain open between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. on weekdays and until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. The long Thursday fell by the wayside. (There have always been exceptions for restaurants and tourism, as well as for bakeries and florists.) But German consumers were still waiting impatiently for more shopping freedom. They were countered by a combination of interests that included German employee unions and the German Catholic and Protestant churches.

Another seven years went by before the Bundestag passed a new law in 2003 that extended opening hours on Saturday until 8:00 p.m. But the really big change came in 2006. In what was called Föderalismusreform, German lawmakers (in the Bundestag and Bundesrat) made the matter of shopping hours a state concern rather than a federal responsibility. Under the law passed in July 2006, each of Germany's 16 Bundesländer (states) can now regulate its own shopping hours. If a state does not pass its own store-closing law, the federal law remains in effect. To date, only two Länder have failed to do so: Bavaria and Saarland.

General discussion / Re: Figure size
October 11, 2018, 03:59:05 PM
I purchased some 20mm Rhodesian Bush War figures and they look very good. 20mm are the largest figures I would probably ever use for wargaming and 15mm the smallest.

Good luck with your project. I'd rather have all my teeth pulled out with pliers by Mossad agents than decorate a whole house.

...I probably won't be posting many photos on the PP site before the religious festival where the majority focus on the material (I'm sure even the pagans saw it as a time for reflection).

I am shocked by your cynicism regarding the majority.  ;)

Peterloo, have you had time to move forward with creating mechanisms which will work with the map?
