Square Bashing / 15mm trenches
November 30, 2017, 01:01:17 PM
I thought others might be interested in these very reasonably priced trenches.  james used them in our recent Cambrai game and they looked very good.

Square Bashing / Cambrai game
November 26, 2017, 09:23:39 AM
James arranged a game at his house on Monday 20 November to commemorate 100 years since the start of the Battle of Cambrai.  Tom has done a great write up on his blog http://tomstoysoldiers.blogspot.co.uk/search/label/Square%20Bashing

The fact that we forgot that heavy tanks could take 3 hits didn't help the British!

Cheer,

Simon

There is a good novel set and written a decade  earlier called The Riddle of the Sands by Erskine Childers.  This reflects well how early this concern really was.  The book was also made into a film in 1979.

I think you will find that it was anti-rodent netting to prevent attacks by a top secret German weapon - Monty Python-like killer rabbits known as Sturmhase.

Ummmm - well I thought the programme was a bit disappointing.   Not sure why the two tank officers featured in the programme were wearing lance corporal stripes and carrying Lee Enfield rifles in the re-enactments!  I also suspect that the colonel had 2nd Lt's pips.

I appreciate that the programme was meant to be about the individuals but there was really any detail or depth about them.  A few more maps and photos of the battlefield as was in 1916 would have been more useful than the lovely rural scenes as they are now.

Nice pictures of the hardware in action though!

Anyone else watch it?

I have just put some pics up of my Kallistra 12mm late British and German armies on my very irregular and amateurish blog at:

Same applies...  by the square.  If they win all the markers are removed. You got to to be certain of wining! nothing quite so galling as loosing a fight to a square that has been leathered by artillery only to see all the casualties come off! :-0

Sometimes best not to attack and let morale take its toll

That is exactly what happened to me yesterday in a game against my son.  I attacked with professional units against regulars with three barrage markers and existing casualty markers and even had a flame thrower to help.  I think the final die were 11 for me v 5 for him.
I inflicted one hit that was saved and he inflicted three hits of which only one was saved by me!

Do units that have won a fight  (and are elated) remove all casualty markers in the square or only the ones that have been applied in the fight they have just one?

Thanks

Many thanks, Simon - I'll look out for that one!

Presumably you'll be posting some pictures of your 12mm WW1 armies for Square Bashing shortly too? :)

Simon

Will do so soon!  Just finishing making a ruined village with cork tiles!
