I think in December it might be a good idea to arrange a Play Day at Entoyment?
As there always seems to be interest from others at Entoyment, maybe get Peter Involved too.
Especially as it has been suggested we do a Hammerin Iron "long table game' in January?
So it would refresh our memories in how to play the game etc, as well as generate some interest? Hopefully?
Not too sure what weekend? Maybe one that hasn't got a Hugh tournament on as we know you haven't got too much time to look at other things when your in a tournament ?
I know Stewart probably can't come ? But that's down to his work commitments etc.
But for the rest of us a valuable day to refresh our memories on how to play the game ?
Definitely a game we must do at WWW this year !
Miles
Good note Miles.
Stewart has suggested January 28th 2023 as a date for the "long game".
Of course we can play HI before Christmas too.
HI is the featured game at Beach head 2023.
I will put forward some detail about the Long game to see if interest is there?
It might be Miles, martin and Stewart?
martin ???
Possiibly Sean!?
Miles,
I'm definitely up for trying out Hammerin' Iron. I can even bring smaller scale Tumbling Dice ships if we can scale down the rules.
Richard
Richard,
You can just say they are a very long way away.
And maybe harder to hit...? :D
Simon
Is Fr Ted going to be playing?
The basic idea is as follows.
3 tables end to end but separate.
This gives 15 feet of river (no sea).
Each table has two players fighting each other.
Union transports are passed from one table to the next. i.e having moved along table 1 the table 1 players give the transports to table 2. Table 2 players eventually pass them onto table 3.
Each table has a bunch of random (with player input) happenings.
Play the game twice in the day. Am and Pm.
Randoms include:-
1. How many guns in a fort.
2. Hidden shore batteries.
3. Confederate ironclads appearing.
4. Union damaging shore facilities as they progress.
etc.
martin :)
I like this Martin. Something a bit different.
However, if Im on table 3 I can not guarantee my fleet will still be afloat by the time the transport reaches me 🤣😅
This sounds like a great plan, chaps!
Simon
My experience of transports is that they get blown out of the water very quickly (thank you Miles!) so what is the objective for each of the tables.

John
Why, to beat the French of course!
...sorry, wrong film :)
The union big reward is getting the transports through. Their lesser reward will be confederate stuff destroyed, both land and river.
The Confederate reward is for transports sunk and a lesser for union warships sunk.
Each table will not be a matter of setting up two forces and "going for it".
Instead it will use a trickle down formula which always seems wisest (?)
Players will be able to influence the happenings via gambles etc.
martin :)
We do need to get a few games in before we play the "long game" so we know what we are doing ? Actually use some of my new Confederate Ironclads !
I need to make a Virginia 2 ! It's a missing boat of the James river squadron.
Miles
Good to see you making more boats Miles.
Good news.
The long game will use modest Confederate ironclads. Probably no big ones (Virginia 1 and proposed big ironclads).
Virginia 2 is not that big and actually fought so can certainly be included.
martin :)
I ve got most of the Confederate ironclads, mainly the more modest 1100-1700 points, so you do have a better chance of doing the ideal game formula of 2 Ironclads, 2 tinclads and 2 wooden boats for a good game.

Just to keep everyone up to date. I ve spoken to Peter at Entoyment about combining Hammerin Iron as an ACW/Western themed weekend at Entoyment, as other 1860-1890 themed games have been talked about on Entoyment's Facebook pages.
It gives us a good chance to re play the rules/game and show it off as well, as there is a good amount of interest in 1/600- 1/1200 ACW ships.
So hopefully will have a date before Xmas.
Miles
Anyway Simon P has suggested 17th December as a date ?
For A Games day to re introduce ourselves to the rules and game play etc.
Is this a doable date ?
If there is a positive I will book it on Saturday.
Miles
Good for me.
Richard
That sounds like a good plan to me, Miles :D
Simon
Probably too close to Christmas for me to commit.
John
17th December Entoyment is fine for me.
Maybe start a new topic with 17th as a title for clarity?
martin :)
If Ben is not working, we could be up for joining in. We have no kit for this game though.
D&B
I have 2 mats and plenty of ships and of course Martin does have a few as well !
I will book 17th when we play on Saturday. 2 or 3 tables ?
