Just reference people playing down their own painting, once 15mm figures are on the table  from 3 feet away, a lot of the painting quality can't be seen. I've never once played a game with anyone on here and thought their figures weren't nicely painted.

We can't all be masters of the art. So long as figures are painted I don't mind.

Doesn't stop me enjoying seeing masterpieces like the above...but for playing games, I'm happy with whatever people turn up with and enjoy using!

It's actually amazing how much difference in practice nice bases make on the tabletop. You can almost forget about the figures!

Actually, bases, shields/flags and faces are what people notice. If these are nicely done, the rest can be poor to average - our brain fills in the gaps.

I've recently been renovating painted figures bought from eBay, some due to breakages but with decent paint job, others very poorly painted with hideous bases.

Main work was the bases. Then figures got a AP wash of dark tone then flesh and main colours highlights.

Figure painting is all a matter of choice and trade-ins. I have spent hours adding a fourth highlight to 15mm faces at the cost of very slow painting and never getting stuff finished.
Now, I work to a "good enough" standard and will cut corners or use Contrast Paint and washes where necessary.

Cheers all for the very kind words. Just to emphasise  the point though, I can only paint these figures like this because Martin (?) sculpts them so well, and includes insane levels of details. As mentioned above it is all about the presentation. Anyways a bit of scout action from last night

and with scouting done 2nd section forms up to attack

Fresh order on the way so some British Paratroopers next

Nice work to uplift these figures.

There's nothing more frustrating than a broken spear on a 15mm figure. Your repair job is excellent.

Thanks Sean. I'm perfecting the technique. Plastic broom bristle cut to length, end squashed, sharpened. Blog of superglue gel and while balanced, sprinkle on bicarbonate of soda.

The bicarbonate of soda trick is that it reacts to create a very solid join. Recently, I saw a genius idea to dilute it in a spray bottle to use as a superglue accelerator.
I'm going to experiment with diluted bicarbonate of soda in an eye dropper so I can drop a small amount of liquid onto the join.

Once dry, any excess can be carefully cut and sanded down. I usually add a coat of quick drying acrylic varnish before painting and another coat after painting.

Reinforcements arrived yesterday in the shape of a British Parachute platoon. First two test figures complete as I work out my palette and process for these. As always these are stunning figures and a joy to paint

Cheers Martin

Last of the the test pieces now done. Happy with results so time to start the conveyor belt.

Guy on the right has had his beret swapped for a helmet and seems to be ok, guy on the left can never remember the password.

I really like the "clutter" on the bases, which makes them come alive.
