I very much enjoyed today's show.

The Brickskreig system is a clever way of getting the kids involved: build models in a Lego style and play with them without any painting.

I was very pleased with how well the AK47-based Wild Geese game that Miles and I pulled together worked.

We'd not had a chance to playtest but a little thought and common sense helped us work things through. AK47 gave a very enjoyable and light-hearted game.

I was surprised by how many people stop by to talk about the game, having rapidly recognised the iconic Dakota. And they usually smiled once they did.

We'd gone for a standard sceney template approach this time, rather than Miles's usual bespoke sculpted terrain. We were both pleased by all the positive comments about these rather nice terrain pieces.

He made it to the plane, but no pilot had arrived as yet ? So it was a draw !
To be honest we didnt get a chance to play the game ?
We both done a turn each ! Then it was 4 hours later before we got to turn 3 ?
We did  make it to then 8 !
Looking forward to playing it again ? In a more game like situation?
Simon's figures looked superb.
I think Simon was worried i might just pile on and kill him ? Game done! But once he got to trust using the game system and let it play ! It wasnt going to be a walking the park for the Simba's! I was even thinking I was seriously going to need the Attackers other platoon option ! As we did managed to make proper "killing  grounds  for the MG ?
I did add the "odd tree" to some of the Partial grounds as it was at the Show to give that full table look ? As in the film the ground leading up to the runway area was full of trees, walls,  bushes and long grasses !
Both AK 47 games made Wargames, soldiers and Strategy Facebook pages, thanks to our good friend Guy.
Having the "Film"  version of "the wild geese" gave us that little in the extra (wow factor)entertainment value ? We always try for at the show, as we are one of the few 15mm,and/or smaller than 28 mm games at the show ?
Thank you Simon for suggesting the Wild Geese as a game for this years show.
We pulled it off in making it look good but being able to make look like the sort of game you  can put on at home or your local club as well ?
Thank you Sean for giving me the idea in how to make "long grass' pieces to fill up the "Partials" that helped in giving the table that "out in Africa" look to the table !

Impressive set up, the AK47 game. That Dak and section of runway really helped define the era, and was very evocative. Well done 👍🏼.

That is a super game Miles mad Simon.
Thank you for putting it on.
It was certainly a draw for the show visitors.
Nice work.

Thanks, Martin.

We certainly had lots of interest, to the point of not getting much playing done. But that was fine too - it was a show after all.

Mad Simon  :)

That must have made you even ander?
You are right that at shows it is more about the talk than the play.
That is all to the good.

A nice rest now for all of us.

Good news on selling 30 copies of AK 47. That reflects the general positive chat we got. We had one proper Negative about it being now being on "Grids" ? Funny they wouldn't say Squares? Is there a difference?
He even criticised that I had Inert Ammunition on the table ? They are "Illegal" ?
I didnt have time to paint the "Zebras" ! Without them looking shoddy?
We will put the game back on for Beachhead next year ! With the bits we didnt get painted on the table, a proper Speacial piece and a mine shaft and the Zebras !
Hopefully at WWW we can sort out any minor rule changes then we can write a proper Article for the Mill outlining what we have done and proper suggestions on how to recreate this part of the Film/Boook/Battle ?
I am glad the AK 47 was well received generally and our game(s) generated the right interest !
So thank you to those that said Hello, and appreciated what we had done ?
It makes it all the more worth the effort ! As there was a few Weekends worth of work in there ! With a few more to come and finish it off !

Often a single "moaner" can make a bigger noise/ripple than they should. This is because they are unexpected. They have taken time to come and criticise. I suspect they have a disproportionate view of their importance? I am sure you chaps just carried on with the nice people.

The grid/squares beliefs I have put to one side. If folk prefer non gridded games there are plenty about.

"No way am I having electric windows in my car! My friend had them and his elbows fell off"

I often think that folk who don't like grids on tables just want you to give them some time. I accept that socially this is beneficial but it is not our task when putting a game on.

The same applies to those who really want to tell you about their game project, which has no relationship to what you are doing, by coming over to the gaming table.

A Mr N at Chippenham many years ago would always come straight to our game and tell us all about his Marlburian project, each year.

We are a curious species with mainly good intent.

Good to catch up with some of you.  Games looked good.  Didn't buy a lot of toys mostly paint and material.  I do like Newbury as a venue.
