A good day by all

Sean Clark

I had two very enjoyable games. I took my raw Anarchist Militia and spent my points on an extra platoon, extra LMGs, Armoured Trucks and a pair of field guns.

Game 1 was against Stewarts veteran Spanish Legion. I attacked  looking to overwhelm him with my numbers.  I made a couple of mistakes in deployment and then reinforcements  rolls which hampered me. Stewart played well and deserved his big win, holding all 3 objectives at the end of the game.

Game 2 was against Weymouth Mike and his lovely Carlists and Falangists (using the Carlist list, but some
Falangist troops helping out). Martin helped out. I defended, and with only 2 of my 5 platoons on table struggled to hold back the tide as Martin in typical style attacked hard on his side of the table.

I did manage to bring my troops on gradually, leaving a few behind as I was aware that Mike had the delay asset. Fortunately it only impacted me once, and in the end my weight of numbers began to tell as Mike and Martin's casualties  began to build.

I'd forgotten the rule that buildings and rough hills held counted the squares behind them as well, which boosted M&M's points, but I ended up with a small win. Which was nice.

Martin, Eric, Mike and Stewart stayed  for another game which looked to be going disastrously for Mike and Martin but I had to leave before it finished.

Always nice to see the chaps. Eric, Ben and Derek were the others in attendance. We missed Miles but wish him well after his accident.

A nice drive home listening to the football and it was feet up with a cup of tea just after 8pm.

Lovely!

It was a good day of gaming. Entoyment worked out OK too.   We were in a distant corner.
I had forgotten about the +1 to saves for veterans at close range.

I think the Vet/raw +/-1 for shooting saves should become +/-1 forAP instead ?

Otherwise veterans will win all of their games, which seems undesirable.

Just had a quick look at Fighting for Mexico.

There is no AP bonus or negative for veteran or raw. Shooting gets +1D6 per shot if they better than the target.

I felt I was up against it against Stewarts veterans in my first game. However, I did make some mistakes and managed to kill quite a few bases. I think given another game now I'm refamilairised with the rules, I'd give Stewart a closer game.

I didn't feel I was disadvantaged particularly with the rules as written and thoroughly enjoyed both games.

I think the issue of the defender laying all the scenery and building a fortress of closed scenery might need some thought. I've actually done this in AK People's Edition but that's mitigated by the attackers arrival zone.

A fortress is where a player places a ring of closed scenery (building or woods) templates in a U shape, then sits in them shooting away at the attacker as he tries to shift the defender who is generally saving on a 2+. If the attacker fails to move any of these, it's going to be a difficult day for them. There's no '2 touch rule' in SCW. But I think it's important for the attacker to prioritise breaking up this ring of scenery.

Do take it easy Miles.
The gaming will still be there.
Are you doing the PBI next Saturday?

Going with veterans isnt all sweetness and light though. Every base lost hurts more when you only have 2 platoons.  OK, in the second game confused "unit" with "Platoons" so didnt have both platoons to start with as I should have.

What is a real killer though is the deny asset.  I will really have to make use of that next time.

Great days gaming though. Thanks to all involved.  Really liked the new Entoyment store .

Yes the delay asset is quite strong Derek.

I had it used against me in game 2, but as I was aware of its presence. I was happy to leave a base or two off table if my reinforcements roll was good enough, fearing that if I left bases in the ready area they would be sent back to the not ready area by the use of delay.

Martin, I am planning on going on Saturday.
