Objectives

Next newbie question.  As I understand it, objective rows must add up to 13 and the crossroads one is compulsory.  In our game the crossroads was in row 2 and so the others were placed in rows 4, 4 and 3 to comply.  As the defender deploys in rows 2 and 3 (surprisingly not row 1) two of the objectives were forward of the defenders.  Worse, the attackers go first and can move two forward to take them straight away, unopposed.  Did we do that right?

While searching for an answer on this one, I've now read here that defenders often place an objective in row 6, as an throwaway loss and leaving only 7 points needed for the others.  This doesn't seem to be a problem, so I assume the defender's choice is to either fight aggressively over several objectives in the middle, or throw one away and defend further back. Is that how it typically goes?

Something like that Trevor.

As an attacker, the motto of go strong on 2 or 3 objectives usually works. It's fairly rare for one player to be able to take all of the objectives. The defender has the last turn and can launch a last minute dash to wrestle one from an attacker in a lot of cases.

It is incumbent on the attacker to press home a numerical advantage  early on because by the games end the defenders troops will have mostly rlarrived redressing the numerical advantage. I quite often see the defender attacking more in the later game and the attacker trying to hold what he has gained in the first few turns.

Row is the row of squares that go L-R or R-L.
Column is the up and down.
The count always starts in the Defenders Row.
So the X road normally ends up in Row 2-3 on the Defenders side, the Rough hill is always the best one to throw away in Row 5-6 on the Attackers front line.
Hopefully that helps !

Thanks both.  My prejudice expected to be able to defend all the objectives.

Some objectives and a number squares in 2 and 3 especially buildings count towards your points score.
