Should have my 1:200 dogfighting up and tested by then (going to try to start this in June).

Yes, I'm only really interested in playing RFCM games. It's my annual RFCM extravaganza!

John Watson

I'm with you Sean. Isn't that the point of the weekend. I excuse "target Ahead" as that is honorary RFCM.

The main aim of the weekend is to celebrate/enjoy the RFCM games of which the whole group has taken part in play testing. This should mean that members will all know a bit about how these game play (even if just from the forum) and the story of their  development.

Some of the games have not been played by some players in years, which makes them enjoyable to get out once more. As play testers the group will all have at least one army specifically made for these games. It is good to get them out again. Otherwise some of these armies don't get enough air. This is the only annual event when you will certainly get a game with those armies if you want to.

Other games have their own events. Big Mike organised a fine set of events at Entoyment for his great  air game.

If we spread out over many systems then the weekend becomes a  nice games weekend.

However that would lose this dedicated  chance  to try and re-meet RFCM games, bring armies built for those games and chat about sets of rules common to the whole group.

Of course I do not own the event and my pushing of RFCM rules might be too much.
The event would still be successful as a general gaming event I am sure.
If that is the path it takes then fine by me.

Should there be a wargames event dedicated to just one rule writing group (all of us here) ?

That's what the Weymouth Weekender is Martin...a chance to play as many RFCM games as possible.

There is always a good chance to play the latest set in playtest  but also to dig out older collections  or to play a game you've not played before.

Les very kindly put on the previous version of Pieces of Eight a few years a go as I'd not played it.

The set piece games are great too. Big Mike's Long Tan was a real highlight for me.

But also I've had some memorable games just sitting down with friends and enjoying the game and the company. A Western game where Mark, my partner walked away half way through the game as we were losing badly and you sat down to replace him amd finish the game. We still lost badly but had great fun!

Miles' Hammerin Iron collection, Chris bringing his AWI, Stewart with his Pegasus Bridge scenario, games of Regiment of Foote, Civil War Battles and Square Bashing.

All hold very fond memories for me. The odd 'non RFCM' choice is nice for people who want it, but as I've said before, this is my RFCM extravaganza as I don't get to play anywhere near as many games as most of the Weymouth posse.

John Watson

Absolutely Sean. I remember Martin and I getting a mauling at SCW, mainly because we forgot to bring on our last platoon.

Re Martin's last comment about games events for one rule publisher, Too Fat Lardies have events called Lardy Days where only their published rules are played.
John

Moggy

after the above comments I now have doubts about considering bringing my dog-fighting stuff along even thought its not much more than a mini-game really.  Will have to think more on it.

John. I think we lost not because of our inattention, but solely because of Joe Biden.

I hope no one feels that there is hostility to them  creating games. That is not intended. Creating games is always a good idea.
However, the WWW is and has been a chance  to focus on RFCM games that we have all been involved in (to a bigger or smaller amount).

I think for after hours gaming it's fine. Like the gamettes. But for the main sessions I'll only be choosing RFCM.

Stewart puts all the hard effort into arrange the weekend for which I know we are all eternally grateful and I'd hate to see people upset or discouraged. But on the other hand there are 51 other weeks of the year to play something else 😂🤣😅

As a distraction, as I am convalescening after my operation, I've painted up all of my Western buildings. Just some signage to do and a little bit of detailing.

Very good Sean
You happy to run a western game at the weekend?

Stewart

Hello Miles
I suggest that yor bring two full games to make the "carry" manageable.
Pairing up to put on a game is a good idea too.

I will bring a full CK if nobody else does.
