Yes they aren't the same quality. I bought a couple but will use the sources stated above in the future.

I have loads of them. In fact too many.  Now I make insert trays (i find the pre-made ones too shallow for standards/vehicles/cavalry) and store stuff in their trays and just place into a box for travel.

I invested in some boxes at my local bargain store before lockdown but they have tapered sides and don't really match the other biscuit tins etc I use for storage. They are also a bit poorer quality. Can you guys recommend sizes of RUB best suited to 15mm figures and AK stuff that you use?

I normally go for the 9 litre ones as they can hold 4 trays snuggly. I only put 3 in as the taller stuff (standards etc) can be taller than the trays.

Plus they are waterproof. I have to store stuff in a metal shed that suffers from heavy condensation. Keeps it nice and dry all through the worst of it.

Speaking solely about 15mm and myself.

4L for small armies.
10L for fill armies.

Threw out all my box files, tins and buckets 20 years ago.
RUB are so good that there is no attraction for me to use any other stuff.

Cheap, high quality, great range, stacking, portability etc.

Very disappointing - look like a cheap knock-off.

I too am a big fan of RUB in a multitude of sizes. I use the 35-litre ones for scenery.

If you combine with the Warbases RUB half-sized tray inserts, I find that a 4litre RUB can hold a single average Classic AK47 army. Two stacked 32mm half trays handle the infantry and a single 66mm deep for the vehicles.

The place to buy RUBs is Homebase. On my amazement at how many they had I was told by an employee the owner had shares in the company.

On the subject of MDF inserts can I warn about the danger of mould growing on MDF. This was discussed recently in one of the wargame magazines. I store my collection down my cellar which is slightly damp and the MDF inserts I had laser cut myself were pretty infested  I've since sealed, primed and painted my surviving inserts. Having said that I may have been using a cheaper untreated MDF so inserts made of a better quality and treated MDF might be okay as  I have noticed some MDF with a sheen on the surface down my cellar is unscathed. The morale of this tale is don't store stuff down your cellar or in a shed.

I don't use MDF for my inserts. I use white foam board  ( https://www.hobbycraft.co.uk/white-foam-board-5mm-a1/6685721000.html  ).   This is easy to cut, quite firm and very light. Large sheets that have had many other uses for me as well.

That's a great idea. I've got some of that lying around, I think I'll try using it for an insert in the boxes too.
