Maybe that would be OK when fighting Early War forces?

But then late war armies are going to suffer because of EW armies.
To be honest most of us play 1942 plus armies and up.
I think it would be easier to let the EW armies gain points in some circumstances rather than penalise LW armies you going down a slippery slope otherwise.

We went down this slope this time last year ?
That's why I introduced the system for the factory game you paid for the infantry and got your vehicles for free ?
Allowing both players to choose up a certain number depending on Attacker-Defender status.( you hope the players then had common sense rather than being greedy ?)
You could then choose what vehicles suited what you wanted to archive in the game.
It got us around it back then. We can adopt it again if you want to compromise LW forces again ?
It's not ideal but it did work ?

So no more PBI. Let's call it NBT " no bloody tanks"

It is easier to compensate( bigger army?) the EW gamer in whatever way suits, rather than compromise ( no vehicles ?) LW gamer ?
John and Simon you don't have to field Panzerschreck or Panzerfausts ?
That's my view ?
Otherwise we will be back to the V2 scenarios where people were fielding EW armies in competitions because of the points difference and extras they were getting ! Good I suppose for the sales of Japanese, EW Russians and Hungarians and big Mike can field his Dutch ?

Miles, one of the reasons I don't use EW much is because I quite often can't field a legitimate company under the current rules and points system. The ones that work at present are the ones where the platoon size is big such as the Japanese, Russians and the Italians, if you use their shock platoon.
Perhaps the answer is to increase the points value of everything. Say make a basic average rifle base 7 points instead of 6, LMG or mortar 11 points instead of 10. A one point increase would make my EW BEF cost 36 more points for the three infantry platoon and 7 points extra each for mortar and/or MMG platoons. This would bring them  up to the 400 mark and keep them in the number of unit limits.
Vehicles and guns could be left as they are or increased in line with the infantry.
Another alternative, especially if you want the infantry to star, would be to increase the cost of support platoons, vehicles and guns and leave the infantry points as they are.

So I think that sums up the problem

Don't mess about with the other army set ups just to sort out the above !

I will start another topic so that the title matches the talk

I've never played a game where companies are from different years or theatres. That doesn't interest me.

But i get PBI needs wide appeal and people should not be prevented from playing whichever armies they like (or have).

There isn't an issue with foot units. But clearly an earlier period tanknof antitank will not be able to trouble a later war AFV. And vice versa the Late War AP will cut through earlier War easily.

Although the points should mean the EW company can bring more tanks.

I remember fondly one game where my platoon of four raw valentines (lend lease to Russians) attached to a 1944 recce company destroyed a Tiger by assaulting it.  Thankfully my opponent, confident he'd smash my feeble vals in a firefight left his big cat alone in a square. So my brave boys simply drive v fast right at him. I'm sure the tank PC works have been made a hero of the revolution.

My thoughts on this are that the rules quest contain the mechanics and points necessary for an even game so urge caution in adding new adjustments.

It comes down to tactics and of course dice.

I agree Nigel, that the foot AT makes the most difference.

Almost there???

Good point Martin.

Four panzerfausts vs one antitank rifle both at 4 points. The ATR would of course be useless vs LW armour. Not worth bringing.
