A PBI 1 day campaign

An idea for early 2024.
A day at Entoyment with a set of linked battles.
Needs at least 8 people (4 simultaneous games).
400 point armies that can "hive off" a bit to others.

Two teams.
Good chaps and bad chaps.
The objectives from all games go into a central "pot" of victory.
The second set of games will be slightly affected by the first game results.

Overall every one gets 2 games with some bigger/smaller to help with the overall team plan.

Who might be interested?

Maybe a theme such as "fall of Berlin" or "Stalingrad"
The theme would be a general background not a refight of that famous battle. Therefore, there could still be country side games but there would be some reference to the bigger battle taking place.

It would be unwise to claim a PBI game represents Stalingrad or Berlin.

The game day would concentrate  decisions on the team rather than a central dictat.

Maybe some random trivial evenets such as in the CK day???

Summary
1. 4 games am. 4 games pm.
2. Normal forces with some small redistributions allowed.
3.Team scores not individual ones.
4. Some overall scenery and battle background theme.
5. Some small random events.

I'm up for that Martin. Either side.
Possible alternative scenario. Market Garden.
Table 1. The British push up the road
Table 2. American paras at Eindhoven
Table 3. American paras at Nijmegen
Table 4. British paras at Arnhem
AM the Allies attack. PM the Germans counter attack.

Thank you John.
Good to have you play.

I am trying to think of  games that we have armies for.
Also armies that players can build whatever they like as in a normal game.

I think we have plenty of German armies. That is good.
The WW2 actual campaign is only a rough background to these company level actions.
The games will not represent  the big divisional fights going on.

Asking a player to bring "A German force" etc.  will give players lots of freedom.
I think we have a lot of Russian armies but will need to check of course.
Besides, Berlin battle is on the 79th anniversary in 2024 , surely very important.

We also have plenty of early war armies French, German and British which might be a consideration??

Allowing  fairly normal PBI armies will avoid any scenario restrictions that players do not have the soldiers for or affect the game in a surprising way.

I am happy to  negotiate and "bat" things about of course.

Therefore I propose two choices that we can easily source with armies and scenery.

1. Berlin  . One table using Miles' factory table, 3 tables with general countryside.
Germans, Russians, Volksturm?

2. France.  One table a town, 3 tables with general country side.
EW British, French, EW Germans, German paras.

I very much enjoy these kind of themed / team-based days. I realise that I would have to be a "bad guy" (EW German paras / LW German army), but am comfortable with that.

Depending on the precise date, I would love to join in.

Simon

martin goddard

Thank you Simon.
I had assumed you were a bad guy.

This is in the early stages and getting a good Saturday will be balancing act.

If it were early was maybe John would command the allies and Simon the  Germans?

Late war John Russians and Simon Germans?

Early days?

martin ???

John Watson

Happy to go with whichever. I have plenty of Russians and Germans for late war. I have early war Brits, Germans, and FSJ.
John

Moggy

Sounds good to me, Have EW Germans and Russians

Derek

martin goddard

Sounds like Germans V Russians?
It would be nice to let players build their own force however they want.
Maybe up to 1 unit can be added or deducted from a force by the overall commander?

e.g I see you have 3 foot platoons, 1 tank unit and a mortar platoon. Will you lend your tank unit to Alexander for game 1? Alexander can only increase his force by 1 unit max.

What about Desert as the supply lines were quite long ? Either way
The scenery would be easier to do across several tables without too many complex structures and considerations involved? Easier to mix and match ?
Also several periods of tanks-A/cars-transports from either side can used at the same time. Also not all would be in Desert Cammo either so making the game logistics easier ?
Miles

martin goddard

You make good points Miles.
However I think we have more Russian /German armies than desert ones.
If the "event" works OK then we can look at repeating it with other  parts of the war of course.
This event is intended to be as simple as possible so that players can choose their parts and scenery etc.

I am suggesting that the 4 tables are all  separate and not physically linked.

If we go for Russian /German (?)

We need 4 Russian players and 4 German players.
Of course the date might be a cause for some  players not being able to attend.
All just thinking at the moment.

Not everyone has Russians and Germans of course. I do think most of us do though.  I have two German and two Russian armies. Happy to lend to anyone who needs one.

Tentative.
