I appreciate what you are trying to do Martin. Don't get me wrong but leaving out the elements that make the rules different from ACW is like taking a car out for a test drive but not being allowed to use any gear above third.

I would suggest players have their events sheets complete for the first game. Maybe lessons will be learnt from the first one so would not want to suggest doing both beforehand.

For a starter game I would suggest players move their army into 2 groups and dice for which group they use. Set table up for full width but defender rolls to say which half used. Only 1 Commander used.  This will mean you cant have all your "best" in one pile. Well you can but "sods law" comes into effect then. Don't do flankers. In effect what you then have is a mini game to cover the majority of the rules.

With a half size Army and table width should be able to get through in a couple of hours even for those who haven't played AWI.

Good ideas Derek.

The problem might be that with half the units the events will have double effect.

Also we  need to use flankers as people seem to want the full game. I have heard their point.

I think we are having 2 full games which is the one that makes most people happy.
We have a good bunch of people who will make it work.

I think we have 11 players.
3 tables.  4+4+3
I will get there for about 9am
I believe it is a Warhammer day so maybe order lunch early??

Look forward to seeing you all there
