Sadly most of the Jerrais religious houses were closely affiliated with their Normandais neighbours across the water. I think the French Abbots would have looked askance at such outrageous behaviour by their Norman brethren... they were used as parish armouries though. A Medieval version of a raid on a local militia's arms cache is probably in order!  ;D

Been a while since I've posted here... based on some terrain activity by a fellow gamers on the SCW site I've got the wind in my sails and embarked on a new project...
I finally found an ideal historic example to base my Jerrais version on...

A somewhat unpromising beginning using styrofoam scraps...

Still just a lump atm as I exorcise my AK47 terrain making demon. It will come to fruition at some point in the not too distant future!

After a long hiatus this is finally taking shape!

Hey, it's only just over a year since your last post on this, Neil.

That's nothing in terms of my wargame project timescales  ;D

Looking very nice, by the way.

If you're after photos or descriptions have you tried Société Jersiaise, Jersey Heritage or the National Trust for Jersey? They can be very helpful.

Way ahead of you, Derek
That has been one of my chief sources, that and various conservation and historical surveys of the island. The gentrification and later alteration of the houses make recreations of the late Medieval period problematic, but there are some old photos about that have been fascinating. Hamptonne country life museum has been very a wonderful source too.

After a considerable hiatus, I finally managed to complete my Jerrais stone tower mill... Based on an example in Hauville, Normandy

That looks excellent, Neil.

Museum-level quality?

I wish!
I have been heavily inspired by many older historical reconstruction models I ogled as a kid in places like the Museum of London. There are a few still around. It is heartening to see they have not entirely gone out of fashion though... this more recent offering has inspired me to go on to make some other medieval buildings, including some timber framed two storey buildings.
