What Lewis Gun figures from PP WW1/2 would  be "easiest" to convert for Basque (Euzkadi?) LMG support weapons?  WW2 Dutch?  WW1 Tommies?

Swap heads for beret and smooth over puttees to look like long trousers with green stuff?

Anyone swapped heads on prone figures yet?

Hi there , I would use 569 french resistance prone , there’s an LMG man in the pack who has a Bren gun that is similar to the Madsen LMG used by the republicans . I can find no evidence that the Republicans used the Lewis gun though that’s not to say they didnt  .  The Basques tended to wear a short  waisted checked jacket about the same length as British battle dress but the french figure has a long jacket but does I think  wear a beret so no need for a head swap . Cheers Alex

Thanks, Alex, but I'm specifically looking for Lewis LMG for my Basque support weapons.  A reference found online (not holy writ of course) states:

"Lewis 0.303 light machine gun
Lewis M-1 7.7 mm machine gun. (.303) M1916. Polish and Russian. All old. A part to the North. 800 in three shipments until March 37, one of 400 Polish and two of 200 Russian."

I still need to verify the source!

Prone figures, can be converted with head swaps. You have to look at it with a slightly different prospective when you take off the old head and replace the new. You usually have to cut into the figure a bit to remove the old head, and make room for the new. But other than that iit is the same as replacing most other heads.

Personally I would use the WW2 British Home Guard Lewis gunner (ref. 578); it seems easier to convert because of his general look more suitable (short gaiters instead of putties, etc.).

Thanks for sharing that link , it looks like a fairly reliable source although it's  always nice to see a picture of it in use . Personally I'd go with Pierres suggestion or maybe try and swap guns between the french resistance prone figure and the WW2Dutch prone Lewis man . Good luck always good to see people representing the lesser known troops of the SCW

I ended up ordering some of the prone resistance figures after all, since they fit the bill with a gun that could be a Madsen or the Czech LMG.  I wonder if I can find separate 15mm Lewis guns for vehicle mounts to use for conversion?

I missed the British home guard with limited field equipment  - next order!

I also realized the IB LMG has the Chauchet, so another option that requires little or no conversion.

Thanks again, one and all, for your feedback and suggestions!

Gerald Howson in "Arms for Spain" reports the same quantities of Lewis guns from Poland and USSR in Appendices II and III.
