Some PP head swaps/sculpts

Greetings all,

I love PP models, most of my WW2 is PP where possible and if I have to use other vehicles or miniatures (so far only battlefront, PSC and skytrex) I tend to head swap so it looks more like my PP minis. Whilst I like Battlefront and PSC vehicles their crew vary from awful to boring and I only occasionally use them. So whilst I loved and collected PP for a while I have only just joined this forum and so far all I've done is hassle Martin for things I'd like. I thought I'd post a couple of rough pics of my (Hmmm..maybe "progress" isn't the right word but I'm moving forward slowly) chaps (of either sex) I'm working on for WW2, VBCW and AWI.

Hopefully attached will be picture/s of three of my German vehicles from my Tunisia project using a PP head and procreate. Also there should be a picture of three WIP infantry models from the projects I'm currently working on. Apologies for any dust/fluff and the classic "god that looks awful" when the camera shows all the things you can't see with the naked eye!

Please feel free to add any of your pictures of similar efforts using PP heads to create new crew (I always need inspiration).

Thanks

Andrew,

They look very good to me. I find that head swaps are not always that easy to make them look convincing - yours certainly are.

You may wish to explore / contribute to the current Group Build [https://rulesforcommonman.uk/index.php?board=108.0] on the very same topic!

Hi Andrew,
Very good modelling, you're much better at sculpting than I am. An idea I've had for vehicle crews is Russian artillery crew head swapped with Russian tank crew heads for Zvezda SU76 self propelled guns. I won't be doing them for the current group build as I haven't got the figures or heads and it would be too small an order just for the two or three packs required.

Keep up the good work.

Best wishes,

Thanks Col. apologies they aren't head swaps Per se (except the BUF officer - WW2 Dutch with Assault Guards heads) but rather bodies sculpted to fit Martin's excellent heads. I shall investigate the group build as being stuck in limbo still Im really starting to miss having inspiration/motivation from my usual gaming partner and club. Thank you for the suggestion.

Thank you Martin that means a lot coming from my favourite sculptor. I really love making 15mm and I'm trying to push myself to make more. Your Americans from AK47 were the first models I painted after a twelve year hobby hiatus (the standard taking a break/tricking a beautiful and intelligent woman into thinking I was normal, marrying her then explaining about my second love ::) ).

Thank you Smoking Gun. To be honest a lack of working computer means my blog hasn't been updated for ages (I'm about to deal with that at any moment... ;D) which used to really help push my hobby along when I was keeping it updated. The current "interesting times" have seen me at home since the start bar any medical appointments so it's nice to show my work to someone who's interested and who isn't my wife/dog/parrot as it helps with my motivation. Procreate is the way forward especially for smaller sculpts. It's fine, holds hard shapes well and is very easy to carve or sand once dry - if you can, get some, as it'll vastly up your sculpting game. The Russian crew are on my to do list for my Sutkas too so hopefully I'll be able to have a go at that at some point soon. I never intended to do Russians but Martin's sculpts drew me in and now I have a massive tide of them in the works.

As I still feel slightly guilty about asking Martin for things (I have more, and they're reasonable but I'll wait) I've tried to attach a few more pics: a Battlefront BA64 with a plastic body and PP head (just needs a coat of varnish and greenery) apologies he needs a dust before varnish. A Battlefront KV1 I stupidly decided to convert to a KV1E. Another BUF trooper in the WIP stage and a PP armoured car converted for my VBCW unit (nicknamed the picknickers for always being well supplied and living off the land and being from Herefordshire). I'm rather proud of it but I'm struggling a little with the painting. It has a multi elevation situational awareness and enhancement system , a sturdy cross country detachable reconnaissance conyevance, a message delivery system powered by seed and is replete with equipment for living off the land.

Hope you enjoy them, thank you for taking the time to look

Great to see more head swap work going on. I think headswaps are one of the many strengths of PP figures.
