Why do I post so much?

I recently received a direct message on Twitter asking why I felt the need to post so often on this forum. I don't think it was intended as criticism, but I thought I'd explain here.

It's really quite simple and there are 2 specific reasons. Firstly, as an administrator, I see it as my job to encourage discussion and debate and to keep conversation going. Occasionally discussion can veer off into uncharted waters that go against the few rules we have. Both Simon amd I will gently encourage the chat towards more familiar waters.

A forum member who posts for the first time deserves some response and encouragement to continue contributing. In an ideal world every member would post frequently but as we know that isn't the case. When a new contributor pops up, we are there to facilitate the conversation.

Secondly, I post because I enjoy doing so! I am passionate about this hobby and about all things Peter Pig in particular. I enjoy sharing this hobby with each and everyone of you. We have a wonderful community on here and I am proud to be a part of that.

So, if you were wondering why I post so often, there it is!

Well Sean , I am certainly not going to post on this one.

Sean,
Those are two very good reasons and both feed off each other. All fora need people like you to keep the momentum going. Long may it continue  :)

I lurk here several times a day and very occasionally post.  I find the eye candy inspirational and the painting tips incredibly useful.

Right, now back to the kitchen and wfh...

Sean,

That's a good summary, and one which applies to me too. I like to encourage folk when they post, help to move conversations along and - when I'm feeling inspired - occasionally post something of my own.

Quotewhy I felt the need to post so often

its certainly an odd question. Its just another communication and information medium. Its like saying why do you read so much , or talk so much - the latter I can see :-)

I am reminded of the Bill Hicks story (edited for the delicate of nature)
QuoteI'm alone, I'm eating and I'm reading a book, right? Waitress walks over to me: 'Hey, whatcha readin' for?' Isn't that the weirdest ***' question you've ever heard? Not what am I reading, but what am I reading FOR? Well, godammit, ya stumped me! Why do I read? Well . . . hmmm . . . I dunno . . . I guess I read for a lot of reasons and the main one is so I don't end up being a ***' waffle waitress."

I wonder whether the Twitter poster is the same kind of person who avoids certain forums on the basis of there never being anything going on there  ;D

You can't please all of the people all of the time....

More power to your elbow Sean, you are an inspiration to me.

I agree, I have found this forum and the posts very encouraging, particularly for a solo gamer a.k.a sad old git like me. I'd post more myself but the laptop and my painting/modelling station occupy the same limited table space so it's one or t'other...

I didn't take it partucuslry as a criticism, just a comment as to what motivates me to post here.

Simon C.... I love that quote. As a life long bibliophile, my question would be why don't you read?

Always happy to see your wit on here. Sometimes its informative, sometimes cheek and sometimes a mild telling off or warning.   Either way always worth looking at.

Very kind Derek. Now write 100 lines of "He's not the messiah, he's a very naughty boy."

Especially last year it was and is a very good way to communicate over Our Hobby ! Especially those who were unfortunate enough to had been and even still are more isolated than others.
Now we have the "Post Image" button makes communicating even easier.
Good way to ask questions and find out other people's views on Rules, Kits, paints and techniques and basically anything else related to the hobby.
The views and comments can range from very Dark to very Laughable. But that's a reflection of Life ?
Everyone please keep it up ?

Many forums have a core of posters, making this one no different.

it can have the unfortunate consequence of giving the impression of a clique, I think the difference here is that all commentators are welcomed and feel part of the hive.

As for posting volume, nothing wrong with gravitating towards and spending time in those places that offer a gentlemanly refuge within the variable environments on the internet.
