There are a couple of rules of the trade, which have become abbreviated and then entered common usage.
This leads to dreadful confusion.

"Innocent until proven guilty" (So why are prisoners held on remand?)
When the complete phrase is:
"Considered Innocent until proven guilty" (Won't be deprived of right to defence in their trial).

"The customer is always right". No store security, I didn't slip three Armani shirts into my bag (and I'm always right).
When the complete phrase is:
"The customer is always right in matters of taste", (Hay shop staff, don't offer adverse comment, unless asked for an opinion).

And we all know that Peter Pig customers have exquisite taste.  :D

Indeed they do Steve.
"Sir is also powerful and handsome" (from the pretty woman film)
