It's a tricky balance between WAR and GAME.  I acknowledge the following that Too Fat Lardies have but their games have never appealed.  It seems you can't move for games of Şharp Practice or Chain of Command at shows these days.  Maybe I'm missing something! But I always have been and always will be more into the game aspect.  So long as you get plausible results worth nice toys and good company that'll do for me.

Used to play pirates with 15mm scale ships. Because there were only a few ships, players became either gunnery or sailing masters.

That sounds fun Martin. If a little difficult to source and then store 15mm ships?

The next version of the pirate naval game will use a grid.
I ised to play a great trireme game which used a brick work pattern, Nice

Surprised more people don't play mid-C17th games, especially Dutch v English. The sight of the Dutch fleet sailing up the Thames must have been a frightening sight at the time.

Huge potential for colonial wars-Dutch/English/Spanish/ Portugese.  Loads of pre-game back stabbing and shifting alliances.

Discovered yesterday that I will be involved in a mid-C19th clash between France and Britain in a couple of weeks. Steam, sail and turrets - sounds like fun.
