Airbrushers?
« on: November 07, 2020, 10:07:13 PM »
Anyone here use an airbrush for figure painting?

If so please show a few shots.

Had one for years but only use it for priming.

Terry,

What are you looking for - shots of air-brushed figures or air brushes themselves?

I'm not aware of anyone here airbrushing figures (other than priming or undercoat - although I would be happy to be surprised) but several of us use one on vehicles.

I use an airbrush for 15mm. Mostly horses and zenithal highlighting

If you have the time to provide a description- either here oe for a 15 Mill article, I would be interested,  Simon
Meanwhile I will look up what "zenital highlights " are!

Never come across that before either. I hope it exists and wasn’t just a typo (how close are the z and g keys together??)

I think it may actually be "zenithal", but even still I'd be keen to learn more.

Zenithal highlights are those you get when you there's a light source high in the sky - thus zenith / zenital, so that the highlights only appear on the upper areas.  You achieve that by spraying from over the top of the figure, rather than the side.

Well, Simon. I know things have moved on in 2 decades and I know lots of Warhammer painting is done with airbrushes so just wondering if anyone has done any 15mm figs with one apart from spray priming.

I used an airbrush to refresh my Soviets when Martin released his new range last year.

Graduated sequence of base coat, and then progressive light uniform shades leaving the lower part of the figures with the darker effect.

They came out nicely, Traffic. Would you mind sharing a shot of the front of the finished troops too, please?

Now I am jealous. I am still trying to work out my airbrush. I have done a lovely shade on the floor and my slippers and hands. I guess I just need more practice.

Thank you, Traffic.

I have some Russians to do at some point, and you have provided some great inspiration!
