The final instalment (book 13) - entitled War Lord - of the Uhtred ("The Last Kingdom") series is being published on 15th October. I know that a number of us on this Forum have enjoyed the books to date.

If you're quick you can get a first print run in a special "gold foil designed case". I have no idea what this means (presumably better than a gold foil case that lacks design?), but it must surely be a Good Thing?

I haven't read anything in that series for years. I had forgotten all about it. Must re-read it someday.

The first six books are available as a set. Kindle edition only £6.69 currently on Amazon.

"Final" , tell me that is not true.
I am devastated.
The books are well written and great fun.
I am now left with Jack Reacher and Charlie Parker.
Woe is me !

I'm afraid it's certainly billed as "final". Mr Cornwell is now getting on a bit, so it probably makes sense for him to wrap everything up nicely for posterity?

What if he wakes up in the shower aged 26?
That would work(?)

I listen to the series on audiobook while I paint.  Can't wait.

Let us make some   predictions (albeit a last book may buck the trend).

I will start.
He meets a religious type (bishop?) who is venal, cowardly. a liar or all three.
Then he kills him.

Your predictions?

I think:
- Uhtred just starts to settle in nicely back at home with his new lady friend
- then the whole of Englaland decides to gang up on him - oaths notwithstanding
- there is subterfuge
- Uhtred makes some hot-headed judgements
- there are some nasty fights with gruesome wounds
- Uhtred dies on his feet with a sword in his hand
- his son completes the book

Following which, sales of PP Dark Ages figures go through the roof and a new print run of the Longships rules is required.

Anyone care to separate fact from fiction?

You have ruined the book now.
That is exactly the plot.
Only bit missed is a man witha scar or pyher disfgurement?

Ah - that last bit was missing from the advance copy I obtained on the dark web.

You must surely be right, Martin!

You just described the whole Sharpe series.

Well it's going to climax with Brunanburgh....that much has been obvious for several books now (introduction of Egil Skarlagrimmson, Bromburgh fort).
Earlier books have him complaining about being really old - May mean he survives.
Finan's backstory never got explored, will he settle his scores with an Irish enemy at the battle?
I'm not optimistic he'll survive.....

One thing is for sure...whenever an Uhtred book is released, it makes me want to play Longships.

Maybe I should get that Carolingian force I've been thinking about for years and paint it up during the next lockdown?

Surely Martin has to sculpt it yet? Unless you're considering some lower-quality alternative (shock, horror...)?
