I cannot cleverly predict anything in this sphere with confidence.
But i can guess! :)

I bet £5 that Salute will happen.
There...money where my mouth is.

Here is what  will definitely happen (?????)
Ten predictions. I did bet money that Hilary would win the presidency.

1. Vaccine Feb 2021. Administering starts April 2021. Just one week after Salute.
2. London warlords feel "They have to go ahead" because Excel will not give any refund if the show does not go ahead.
3.Plenty of games go to Salute.
4. Bring and buy re- instated in order to boost attendance.
5. European traders halved in number. Because of UK exit from European trade zone.
6. Salute has a full dealer attendance. They need the money.
7. Public attendance is about 62% of normal.  Lots of social media posts about the right/wrong of attending. Lots of "me,me,me" posts.
8. Attendees declare the show a "success".  Non attendees declare show a "failure".
9. Traders make less money than usual.
10. Gradually shows return to what they were with no changes.

The truth is that the new vaccine will be available from February 2021, but the British Govt will have invested in the Primark version, which is cheaper, but doesn't work. Still at least we got 10 trillion doses for the same price that the French paid for 50,000 doses.
Post Brexit there will be no Polish, French, Italian, Spanish or German armies for sale at Salute. Historically, this could make for some fairly dull re-enacted table top battles. The Battle of the Bulge would be a bit one sided and Fornovo would be a complete no show.
All items on the bring and buy would have to be sanitised in advance, so those professionally painted Polish winged hussars or Napoleonic Mamelukes would be stripped back to the metal, losing about 90 per cent of their value. What a bargain.

Mystic Martin eh 😂

I'd have to agree with 9 and 10.
Also I'm in accord with John and am sure our goverment will find a way of messing up the vaccination programne. Maybe they will rely on the Chlorine in our American imported chickens killing the virus. Chlorine is used in bleach which as Donald says can be drunk to kill it 😉😉

Julie will have to put the crystal ball back in the loft.

The important fact is if Salute was to go as planned next year ? Will Peter Pig be there ?

I've just heard that there won't be a vaccine until winter '21. That means no shows or "away" games for me for the next year unless there is a significant change.

Best wishes,

I expect to attend Salute 2021.
We have a lot of money at stake. (£500)
The medical situation might effect our ability to carry out participation games.
Set and take down  would probably not be affected by social spacing.
Maybe there would be a sign in at the door to accept the risk of virus contraction?

At the minimum we might go just to drop off orders.
This might then become a full stand.
At the maximum there would be a participation game too, along with a full Peter Pig team.  :)

I would expect PP plans to become more definitive 10th February 2021. :-\

The need for the country to function economically will "grind" down and overtake health concerns whether we like that or not.

Interesting times we live in. ???

They reckon international air travel won't return to normal until 2023 so I will see you that year.

Martin,
You have picked up that Salute is now 10th April, cutting it pretty fine with the decommissioning of the Nightingale
Let's see!

Hello Graham
The world is very bonkers at the moment.
I might just close my eyes and click my heels together.
All will be fine then.

Martin,

Let's see!

The Nightingale at ExCeL was decommissioned many, many months ago, and now only about 10% or less of the entire venue is being 'held' for the NHS as a storage facility for the beds and other medical equipment should they ever need to spin it up again at reasonably short notice.

Personally I still think April will prove to be too soon, on the basis that the restrictions against Trade Shows announced in October were due to be in place until at least April. All current experience suggests that any announcements about lifting restrictions are only being made at the last minute, and there are often extensions. That puts Salute! in a tricky position as they won't know if the show can go ahead (or not) until probably only a matter of days before its due to open... a scenario which makes taking bookings from traders very difficult, which in turn means getting punters to commit up front will also be very difficult.

It may come down to how / if the venue have rolled forward the 2020 booking to 2021, how they might treat a situation in which the show is legally able to open but that announcement comes too late to give Warlords time to organise and promote the event, and - possibly - whether Warlords are sensible and have built up a contingency fund sufficient to insulate them from the losses of a cancelled edition of the show.

Taking that all into account, and without even pretending I know anything at all about vacine roll-out schedules  (which I don't!), my bet would be it gets postponed to later in the year ... !

I doubt very much if it will be on. I am still producing contingency plans reviews, the most current produced last week covers up to 1 June. For my pennies worth I think we will be lucky to see a show in 2021, if we do it will be Sept at the earliest.

I think the same for Live gigs as well August 2021 I think will be the earliest.
I watched some stuff on Sky I recorded over Xmas last year, and watching the adverts was like watching another world. How our perception has changed in a relatively short time.
Even John's prediction of Bovington  2021 being the first show is looking a bit off now ?

The summer will see a dip in the virus, but even if the vaccine proves to be safe and viable the logistical nightmare of obtaining the amount of doses needed, plus the county wide vaccination programme puts us towards the autumn, all being well. I just think 2021 although looking more positive will not be able to open the door to large events. I really hope I am wrong, and the door is open again to our hobby extravaganza of big shows.

God that was a depressing post - sorry guys.
