Sourcing scenery items
« on: March 14, 2020, 05:24:39 PM »
Just in the early stages of thinking about Vietnam. Got the MoCB rules - looking great as expected. Those of you who already game Vietnam, where do you get your scenery items from? I'm particularly thinking about paddy fields, bamboo and jungle terrain?

Thanks,
Nick

Hi Nick,
I got my paddy fields from Simon at s&a scenic,  bambo amazon via China but last man last bullet make some bases.
Jungle , I used plastic pond bushes from pets at home.
I based jungle and  bamboo on cd discs, easy to put in trays/boxes

Nick,

There are a few historic threads on these topics (sadly some of the photos have disappeared, as PhotoBucket changed its terms and then TinyPics was killed off):

I've found some of my earlier photos on making paddy fields:

1. Undercoated bases (MDF from East Riding Minitaures, carefully primed to prevent warping + earth berms from DIY caulking, topped in sand, undercoated and dry-brushed):

2. Army Painter dip used to provide a dark and shiny layer of "mud":

3. flocked berms:

4. close-up of earth berms with paths:

If I was doing this all again, I'd probably use strips of wooden beading to make the berms: both quicker and would add rigidity to the bases.

And here are some of my bamboos stands:

Various types and heights of plastic bamboos, on assorted MDF bases (from East Riding Miniatures, again):

Just a test image. Finally gave imgur a go for hosting photos. Even that is a bit of a faff, you can't use the app for proper image pasting, have to use the desktop website to get the BBcode for forums.

Agree Nick. I'd post far more pictures if I could use the app as I could upload straight from my phone.

Nice picture though!

Note the copious use of "outdated" felt templates.  :)

Don't think no-one has noticed, Nick: you should hang your head in shame  :D

Very nice set-up: rectangular scenery works well in a landscape of paddy fields and similar.

Nice bamboo stands - I do like that kind of "multiple clumps on a template" look, which is what I've also gone for.
