Most of the Commonwealth troops were evacuated from Greece, rather than shipped over from Egypt,  I believe. Even if the armour was mostly clapped-out North African stock..

I used khaki, dark sand and Iraqi sand on the uniforms - 8th army types
Long trousers british uniform shades by great escape games
Helmet - dark sand then pale sand
Socks - khaki with gentle touch grey green

There were a selection of units from various theatres, retreat from Greece, reinforcements from N Africa and units already garrisoned on Crete.

So I guess uniforms from the theatre they came from.

I have used a mixture of traditional looking 8th army, 14th army, and Aussies in shorts and normal battle dress. So the troops are a mix and match per platoons.

Mine are definitely desert uniforms, except for the Greeks.

Here is a suggestion,
If things are near normal in May 2021 why not move the games to Crete?
We can go on mass , quick look Flying May 20 (same date as the Fallschirmjager) from Heathrow
7 nights is about £250 for two sharing (Sue May come to try the pool) whilst I play games.

Any one up for it?

That is an inspired idea, Stewart!

I do have the occasional thought when not in the kitchen

Explaining your toys to the customs people might be interesting!

I am happy to fly to Crete.

We had tentative plans to go this summer - a rare occasion on which wargaming and family interests sort of came together.

I hadn't quite worked out how battlefield visits would get woven into beaches, restaurants and the odd spot of archaeology, but it might have involved a futile Minotaur hunt up in the hills :)

An interesting idea! Ben would be doing his A levels, but I am sure Hilary would enjoy the pool.

Been to Crete a couple of times, last time about four years ago, visited a couple of sites, not a lot to see only the odd bunker and terrain - but the occupation museum in Heraklion was really worth a visit. Showed how bad the German occupation was, they really took revenge on the Cretans.

If you walk around the old town some of the walls still show the bullet marks.

This will show some of the scenery around the air strip.

Look at the start of part 2.

To get back on track:
I ve already Converted some of my British infantry with Trousers and top. As it has been mentioned, in photos of that period Trousers and Shorts are both there in abundance.
Yes I will get some 8th Army and 14th Army figures, but money is short this month. So I ll make a start  with what I have for now.
"Could do with selling some things at a Bring n Buy ? When we can have one ?" I wish LoL...
