Confused about rules versions

Hello

I am confused...
I bought a glossy,  comb-bound edition of Hammerin' Iron rules from Peter Pig a few years ago. They are marked as RFCM Team copyright 2011.
But I have come across a Quick Reference sheet for Hammerin' Iron II marked as "Hammerin' Iron 2 Quick Ref Sheet
Version 1.0. P.Schulein, 2003 Hammering Iron 2 rules by the RFCM, 1999".  This QRS includes crew casualties, morale, and clearly different dice rolls for various effects.
Does this mean that HI II is older than my rule set, which supersedes it and simplifies the game?

This confusion could be avoided if the rules were called Hammerin' Iron III or similar, or contained a list of previous versions.

Leslie BT

There have only been two versions.
One set published in 1985.
And a second set was published in 2011. Spiral bound with a glossy cover.
Martin will be able to help with the 1999 version.

lowroller

That is reassuring. Maybe the other was an unpublished version for playtest which was discarded as too complex for the desired game level?
At least I know I've got the latest.
Thanks Leslie BT for the swift reply.

Leslie BT

Yes the 2011 version is the latest. I don't think their are any errors or omissions. Again if Martin knows of any he will tell you. Also look in the child boards above this section.

Never heard of it. Can you give detail of where you found it?
I would be most interested.
Because Hammerin' Iron is very popular, I expect folks have made their own modifications and additions.

2011 is the official Peter pig Edition of this fabulous game..

martin goddard

Did you find the source for that QRS by P schulein ?

Martin

Hammerin' Iron II is on BoardGameGeek. It even shows a pic of the rulebook and quotes Publisher: Peter Pig, RFCM

martin goddard

Agreed thanks.  If it is on the board-game geek site i will have a good look.  If not can you help me find the whereabouts of:-

"Hammerin' Iron 2 Quick Ref Sheet
Version 1.0. P.Schulein, 2003 Hammering Iron 2 rules by the RFCM, 1999"

any ideas?

thanks in advance

Just looked at BGG - there are no files there, so not sure where I got it from. Will see what I can find at home tonight if not luck sooner.

Sorry, Martin - still no idea where I got that QRS from, but here it is in case it rings any bells.

Could this be a non-official QRG that a P. Schulein produced for themselves?

lowroller

Probably, but for what version of the rules, that it includes Morale and land forces?  That's why I was concerned originally whether there was a version more recent than the 2011 one.

martin goddard

Thank you fir finding it. I have not seen that before.
Looks like the whole set on 2 sheets.
I d not mind if people do their own play sheets, but in this case it seems to be looking official. Confusing.
It needs to have text adding  to say "This is an unofficial play sheet, not intended for distribution"   or similar.
Mystery all cleared up, thanks,

Leman (Andy)

Wasn't there originally a land battles sub-set for Hammerin' Iron I, for which the 3mm figures were produced?Perhaps this person produced their own play sheet combining the riverine rules and the land battle rules.
