Basing
« on: July 31, 2016, 05:02:45 AM »
Hi all, just wondering how figures will be based up for this game?

And will one figure on a base = one man, or will a base represent a squad or above.

Thanks

Paul

I have based all On 2p's with 2 figures and 3 for ldrs, a group of bases represents a squad, a number of squads represents a platoon

Cheers mate.  It's interesting your not going the traditional square or rectangular basing route.  I might have to follow your lead.

Many of the MOCB playtesters seem to be going down the 2p-basing route.

It looks more realistic / suitably disorderly from a jungle fighting perspective and takes up less space in the square (i.e. more left for scenery).

War bases do a nice selection of movement trays for 2p's as well and cheap

A 2p coin is almost exactly 1 inch in diameter.

The round base with 2 figures on it does look good. It is a departure after so many years of squares. Indeed there's nothing stopping you using squares but as the game is gridded base sizes don't actually matter. The warbase sabotage are great to and speed up movement whilst maintaining that skirmish look.

You could use quarters but that is more expensive than 2p pieces.

For my jungle and bamboo I have used CD's, on a 12"x6" template there is still room for a squad and two bases or you can remove one bases as your squad moves through

Next basing question.  What size round bases are you guys using for weapon teams such mortars and HMGs?

Weapons teams don't feature in the main rules, although there are some optional rules for them if folk want to go a little off-piste.

Mortars can be used in the firebase scenario: I'll probably be going for standard 3x3 cm bases for those.

I'm using 2p pieces [the newer ones that are magnetic] for both Communist and "White Star" (western) forces, with some Screwfix washers (a little smaller than a 1p piece) for casualties, caches, peasants and VC ambushers [i.e. on the cache loop].

Hope this helps - others may be taking slightly different approaches.

Thanks mate, appreciate that advice.  Surprised VC mortar teams won't feature in the rules.  Are they going to be firing from off board via spotter?
