I am in the planning stages for my own table. Question is do I go the whole hog and make like a diorama but meaning there is no variation in set up? Or go the other route and allow some variation with certain terrain features placed on top rather than integral to the board.

I always liked Martin's Samurai board. I doubt I would have the skills to do something as good as Miles so maybe simplicity would be the key.

Watching Black Sails for inspiration.

You could make it in two parts. Diorama like would be great   Sean.  The half without the coast/harbour could be turned in one of two ways. That would be enough if the important buildings were at one extreme?

Or, if you make it a 2/3 split, you could have 4 rotational permutations for the land-side, ideally with the important buildings each in a slightly different position relative to their closest corner?

I'll get my pencils out and work out some options.
