Ah ha - so that would be the Council Car Park at 8-12 Mansfield Rd, Poole BH14 0DD, Google tells me - thanks!

You can also park there for about £4 per day last time i used it.

The collectable figure for western day looks a bit like William Munny (Clint Eastwood).  Accidental but maybe the figure will be used as a mini Clint?  i will get the figure photographed and packed up ready for Saturday.

Colonel Kilgore

Excellent, Martin thank you.

I'm guessing we'll have punters queuing round the block to get their hands on this exclusive casting?

martin goddard

Yes there will be action!  Look forwrad to seeing chaps on Saturday

I hope you all have a good day out on Saturday.

Hope you all don't find to many problems with the rules, just opportunities to enjoy the game with.

Miles will be wanting input from yourselves on the proposed Arnhem day next year.

Well, a big thank-you to Stewart for having organised a very enjoyable Western event yesterday.

There were only the 6 of us in the end, but it meant we could all sit at the same table for lunch in the cafe next door :)

Having spent way too long getting them painted, I was very pleased to get my Cattlemen bloodied at last. Plus some of the terrain I'd made for them to hide in.

They had a small win and a small loss, and learned some important lessons on properly planning both terrain (not bringing a decent defence piece to defend from in the first game was something of a "doh!" moment) and forces (the lists neatly constrain too wide a choice but there are some subtleties to be aware of), as well as reading the rules properly.

I would like to thank my gracious opponents, Rob and Martin, for their patience and sportsmanship.

I've got a bunch of photos that I'll post up in due course.

Colonel Kilgore

Oh - and special thanks to Martin too for the special "Clint" figure: as with the Square Bashing day's "Captain Piggles" figure, it was a really nice touch to make the event even more memorable.

The Western rules worked very smoothly and played pretty quickly. Other than for the totting up of points at the end, I don't think I referred to the rules themselves at all in either game. We found a couple of minor errors on the Play Sheet (the -1 D6 / morale fail and +1 D6 for commander present impact on Action points should of course be just -1 and +1 points, not D6, since only one dice is being thrown for action points anyway).

By the way, there are free downloads of both the Battle Sheet and Play Sheet available here: http://www.peterpig.co.uk/WESTERN%20informaton.html

And yes, we discussed the Arnhem game a little, mostly road-testing some of the special mechanisms at earlier events to check things run smoothly, which Miles seems to have well in hand.

Good glad to hear that you had a great day out and the rules went well.

A few pictures:

a) the start of my first game: Cattlemen and Commanches race to seize the all-important defence squares, and the single Liability in them:

b) some mounted Cattlemen make a dash for it out of the dead ground:

c) while more and more forces converge on the centre of the table:

d) the game end, as the Cattlemen hold the key ground and grind down the encircling Injuns:

My Game 2 was Cattlemen against Martin's gunmen.

An overview of the table:

Not-untypical dice rolling by Martin (needing 5s and 6s):

Close-up of the central defence squares containing the all-important Liabilty, and also featuring an Eagle marker (for veterans) and a horseholder stand (these troops were dismounted); buildings by Peter Pig:

These held, but the wily rules-author had cunningly selected end-of-game score enhancements that gave him a comfortable victory - well done Martin!

And finally some rather random shots of the other games:

Stewart's rather wonderful 3D-printed saloon, defended by a motley collection of Townsfolk:

More of Stewart's buildings: this time both 3D-printed and peter Pig resin, with the Airfix fort in the background:

I tend to distract opponents, whilst quickly positioning the D6 and shouting "gosh, I should be so lucky".
