Your colony buildings are very effective, Derek!

For the general discussion, I'd group ideas into common design tropes, something like:

Ramshackle Colony (Sci-Fi "shanty town", repurposed old cargo containers and bits of the ships the colonists arrived in) - eg: District 9, Defiance

Purpose-built Colony (higher-tech structures, modular building units) - eg: Aliens, Outcasts, Expanse season 4

"Moonbase" style installation (for hostile environments) - eg: Space:1999, UFO, For All Mankind, 2001

"Mud Huts with Greeblies" (locally-made dwellings to suit environment, with added bits and bobs to give that SciFi feel) - eg: Mos Eisley et al.

There are probably lots more types to add to this list, feel free to contribute...  ;D

I suspect that there are a few very hi tech insurance building interiors that double as sci fi interiors.
Poor people's Sci fi buildings are usually badly lit by a single 60w bulb.

That immediately made me think of the early Star Trek sets. Wobbly walls and sliding doors that didn't.  Brought a smile to my face

My ideal is similar to Modern warfare but with upgraded weapons still keeping normal rifles, but allowing support lasers and plasma rifles.

Artillery can still be planetary but satellite guided.

Tanks can still be wheeled, tracked, hovercraft and Grav.

Planets are usually terraformed.

Sounds like you are a fan of Larry Niven & Jerry Pournelle, Paul.
Their Co-Dominium series is pretty much that. My personal favourite is 'The Mercenary', which spawned many a Traveller scenario for my pals and I back in the day. Falkenberg's Legion, Friedlander tank regiments et al.

Or Doctor Who (the proper old ones, not the modern travesty...) - which pioneered CGI, "Cardboard Generated Imaging"...  ;D  ;D  ;D
