This is an RFCM forum. I can remember seeing the RFCM label on the cover of  either the original AK47 Republic or  Hey, You in the Jail! and wondering what it meant.

My first RFCM game was the original Vietnam rules, I think they were called Search and Destroy and preceded the 1st version of Men of Company B. The other contender was the ancient rules, Oi! My friend had several 25mm ancient armies from the now defunct Warrior Miniatures which we used for a long time.

Around the same time we played Abtielung with our collection of the new figures on the block, 15mm WW2, by Peter Pig and SDD. We liked to think we were trendsetters back in the early to mid 90's  ;D

So what was your first experience of RFCM rules?

Nick

AK47, the original version. Would have been after seeing the Peter Pig stand at the Devizes show, probably 1997.

I believe my first RFCM rules (I was previously something of a heretic and started buying PP figures for use with others' rules :-[ ) were PITS, back in 2008.

I got stalled / distracted when painting the figures to go with them, and didn't actually play a game (thanks Big Mike) of PITS until well over a decade later.

Got introduced to RCFM rules by John Watson with an intro to PBI.  Think first game with him was Dutch Vs Japanese if I remember correctly.

My first PP rules was Lincoln's war with I used my 6mm figures

The rest is just history

With me it happened over time. I discovered the figures then the rules.
My first set of Rules was the original AK47. My first figures were ACW. I had bought both Essex's ACW bundles, as I wanted to do Fire n Fury. So I looked at the PP figures and that's when I first realised the proper existence of the Peter Pig.
What converted me though was STaB tried publishing at the club their own version of AK ? Which by the way was awful! Wargames Illustrated use to publish other peoples "Updates and addons" to AK 47 v1. That's when I sought out PP to play the game properly. Met Dave M and Les at STaB.
Then I discovered PBI, got involved with PBI v2, massively I was the hooked and reeled in.
As Stewart says the rest is History. That would've been late 90s into the 2000s.

I was  also a figures first PP customer. My first figures were Italian condottieri, followed by ECW. My first PP game was using the original version of Regiment of Foote, with all its different coloured pages. I really enjoyed the pre-game narrative and using the little boots. That would have been mid-90s.

John Watson

I started with PP rules somewhere between 2003 and 2005. I remember going to Colours at Newbury Racecourse with the Lance and Longbow Society to put on a demonstration game. Whilst there I met this young whippersnapper called Martin, who told me about some new figures and rules for the Wars of the Roses period. He also got me playing the PBI quickstart game at Fisticuffs and then it was on to Civil War Battles at StaB. It has been downhill (at least for my wallet) ever since.

Ak47 Republic first edition at Derby in the 1990s. This has been documented in Wargames Illustrated. I really liked the miniatures and asked if there was a rules set. Other RFCM games I have played includes HI, SB, Hey You in the Jail, the original SiFi Company rules,& POE.

Best wishes,
Martin from a village neat Grimsby

It would be pirate land raids for me, in the distant past... 2023.
Was searching for an unrelated 15mm project, stumbled onto the peter pig website, saw they were in weymouth and wandered down the hill to an asda night with absolutely no idea what to expect! I'd say it worked out pretty well!
