Whilst considering the next couple of battles to do I looked  into Telemon 225BC. Gauls caught between two Roman armies. Not sure it would be much of a game for the Gauls though, as I like the battle to be able to have various outcomes.

I am going to do Clastidium and Ulai River (?)

Clastidium.  Roman republic goes up against the Celts (without trousers).
Ulai River.  Those darned Elamites are confronted by Mad dog Ashurbanipal.

I think they make enjoyable and informative reading too.

I see that the Battle of Maldon has recently (?) been added. Which is nice, following its outing at the SoA Battle Day.

I wanted to pick up on the commentary of the "Unready" element of Ethelred's name, which I'd understood to mean something rather different. Wikipedia has: His epithet comes from the Old English word unræd meaning "poorly advised"; it is a pun on his name, which means "well advised".

I believe the "unready" label is more to do with the state of England rather than the state of Ethelred. England was unready for war, thus "unready".
Possibly similar to the way that Bashir al Assad was unready.

That is how I have read it.

Next year in Cunaxa https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Cunaxa which I hope we can all trek along to?

A good excuse for a nice Achaemenid Persian range, Martin! You've got the Greeks covered already  8)

All being well I would like to do a later Persian range.

If you do get around to it, I'll paint one up for the Society battle day, and a Greek army to fight against it.

A special piece for the death of Cyrus would look good on the table.

Reading the account from your link, death by scaphism sounds most unpleasant!
