Each vehicle put on a base that suspends it 1cm in the air.
Cover the table with coloured sand (or similar).
Push/slide the vehicle into the covering so that it is still proud of the sand (the gap between base and vehicle is occupied by the sand.

Not very applicable, but ideas are where ideas come from.
