The gully

The gully is a scenery piece not much used in PBI.

The gully does not affect line of sight. Players can see across it.

No small shooting in or out.  This means no opportunity  shooting.
Big shooting allowed in and out.

This might lead to complexities?

If it becomes the same effect as woods/buildings then it is a redundant category and would be deleted from the options..

The effect will be:-
1. Good place for foot bases to creep up on opponents.
2 . Good place for tanks to shoot from (sort of hull down).
3. Allows shooting across it. This might create new tactics?
4. Assaulting it will be easier because no opportunity shooting is allowed and it does not count as a building.

Depiction. I intend to use the gully  resin casting from the PP scenery range. Sudan 63. Maybe with some grass tufts added??

"The gully is a scenery piece not much used in PBI"

I always place it in the scenery box as optional and a lot of people use it. Especially in Mediterranean battles Europe or Africa?
I like the idea of having a tank "Hull Down" but how does that equate to armour effects etc ?
I also like the Mexican "little farm" that is a partial piece ?
Something I want to use on Monte Cassino table ?

The gully does not change the armour effect, but does make the target harder to hit.

I am just trying to work out in PBI terms how your going to do this then ? If it's in the Square is it going to be classed as ?

I use it in Bayonets and Ideology. Being able to hide and then short assault from it is the one and only tactic I have in my Book of Wargaming Tactics!

Don't worry Sean. It is safe with me.

Miles, it is a standard template piece similar to a wood, marsh, gentle hill etc.
Have a read of the 94 as i have simplified it a bit from 93.
See what you reckon.

I've never used the gully scenery piece. Mainly because I don't have scenery for it. So was interested in Martin's reference to a PP resin item from Sudan range. So I'll be ordering some of those.

Helo Nigel
I use them a lot for desert gaming, Sudan etc.

I am going to paint some up for European but will add "tufts" to make them more Europe like.
Stewart has some purpose made ones by S+A scenics. S+A scenics are not in production at the moment so that option is out.

Hope Simon gets back to full health soon. There really isn't any other company like S and A in the UK at the moment.

I agree Sean.
They have been central to my gaming over the last ten years or more.
Great stuff.
