Martin said someone said there wasn't a Middle Eastern Army ?
I said I am sure you had included it in the Army book.
I was looking through the book, and it is in there.
Army 15: British Mid-war Western Front 1915-17
In the Notes at the bottom of the list.
I knew it was there, somewhere?
So now those that had forgotten, now we know ?

I would assume that a middle eastern army (if we are talking about a British middle eastern army) would refer either to the Gallipoli campaign against the Turks and/or Lawrence's forces in Syria etc. The army number 15 is for the trenches and covers the Somme and similar. Army 15 may be usable for Gallipoli but I thought Lawrence's army was highly mobile with cavalry and armoured cars, and not much by way of heavy stuff, like tanks and artillery.

Having written this I have read the notes and I see what Martin is trying to do, but I don't think he goes far enough in the changes. I would have expected a different set of assets for each theatre.

John, keep going through the pages of the book.
Army 30. Arab Revolt 1916 - 18, this does cover the TE Lawrence armies.
Also in the book is:
Army 26. British East Africa 1914 - 18 hopefully that covers the armies in the African Continent that aren't covered by the previous mentioned Armies.
Unless someone comes up with other possible ones ?

So the person who told Martin there weren't any Middle Eastern armies may have got his or her or its facts slightly wrong. I suppose the good thing is that it has been highlighted as a result. Just need Martin to produce the figures now. Better check in case he does that too. Thanks Miles.

Allenby's Palestine campaign is the most important bit. TE Lawrence was a sideshow.

I am awaiting some books before I get stuck in.

Thanks Neil
That all helps. I use a wide range of sources and then try to find the "essence".  The essence is of course a bit subjective . The army sheet will need to fit into SB games and take into account the other sheets that it might play against.

I will put the sheet up for scrutiny.

Lawrence was a sideshow,
Lawrence was a sideshow,
Na naah naah na,
Na naah naah na!

At some point I might give the Middle East a go. I quite like the Beersheba type actions.

It seems ok, but I ve only ever skimmed through it. I mainly got it as it was one I knew I needed to get and was at a cheap price on EBay from World of Books, less than £4 with postage.

For those who fancy something a little different there is also some action a little further west. The Italian invasion/occupation of Libya from 1911 to 1931. It inspired the Film 'Lion of the Desert' which was about the last years of the war between 1929-31 with the death of the rebel leader Omar Mukhtar. Albeit more punitive campaigns in the end, the initial invasion was with Eritrean, Somali and Italian troops vs Ottoman and Arab forces taking over Tripoli etc...
'Lion of the desert' was the first film (movie trivia) to use an end over end somersault of a vehicle. An armoured car is seen blown up by a rebel IED, much to Oliver Reed's chagrin.
