In praise of auxiliaries

Auxiliaries cost 11 points whilst close order cost 18.
Auxiliaries  leave scenery and move sideways more easily.
Bonus in scenario if more than 3 units than opponent.

Minus
Cannot claim close order bonus
Only worth 2D6 in a fight instead of 3D6.

Do you use auxiliaries much?

Another plus: some of the figure (e.g. Romans) look like close order, so can scare the enemy too :)

I use some in my Late Roman army. They have nice shields too.

I do with my Nubians. I have found them really useful in providing the troops needed to keep rear support going most of the game.  As some are bow armed they work out even cheaper then 11 points per unit. Then they are on hand to swap over with a unit that has taken a LOT of damage.
