I have recently bought a Covernanter army and want to check on the highlands status.

The definitions on page 6 for "foote", is for musket and pike units only, so does not appear to include highlanders. So according to the victory points tables highlands units as they are not "foote" are not eligible to hold ground. Is that intended?

As written, it is a significant issue when deciding how to fight with highlanders! It makes them useless at taking objectives, so are best used as cannon fodder!

In some places like page 12 and 120 they are called highlander foote. Although different from normal foote I would say they count as foote for the holding ground victory conditions. They are not explicitly excluded like generals, dragoons and art.

I am sure Martin will be along shortly to confirm, but I suspect they ARE counted as foot.

My next army!

Aberdeen fielded highlanders in kilts and uniform red jackets, but as far as I can tell they were normal pike and musket units and not used as claymore wielding nutters.

Highlanders can hold ground. No worries.
