For ACW ship building I use the Gibbons book.
Plus 3 or 4 others.
Miles is it the John Wallis book you are using??

martin :)

Leman (Andy)

I too use the Gibbons book. As I do riverine warfare as an adjunct to land battles I am unlikely to look for other sources.

The Gibbons book is  "Warships and naval battles of the Civil War" by Tony Gibbons   ISBN 0 8317 9301 5
It is a lovely big hard backed book. It is on E bay etc.
It does not have plans in it but does have nice pictures etc.

Strangely I picked mine up from a Dutch second hand book seller via bol.com.

Thank you Martin,I actually looked it up then found I already have it as well as the Kevin Dougherty's "Ships of the Civil War"
Both are good books but sometimes the information in them are a bit dated !
But a good thing came out of it. I found and bought on the Kindle, ACW Gamer: The Ezine: and issue 5 and 6 have a good article on ACW ships apparently. I will take a look later today.

It's an digital download off Wargames vault these days.
Ironclad and Iron Protected Vessels of The Confederate States Navy 1861-1865
By John W Wallis
It has plans and information helping those that want to know more about these vessels built and used and proposed and half built.
