I ve been wanting to build this ship for a while, as it is an usual ship in shape, and just a bit different.
Not the most successful, by any means but the PP range has a few of these type ships ? So another to join the ranks, and my first pure Scratch build for the Confederate Navy, as I have a few Union ones.

Lovely work, Miles!

That's a really unusual looking vessel.

That is excellent Miles.

Have you considered designing them  using a 3D program.
You could then sell the print files and make some useful cash for all your hard work?

A bit beyond my means and at the moment know how doing 3D print files.
It would be nice to know someone who a)knew what they were doing with these files,b) had a computer and more importantly a working 3D printer as there are some ships I would love to have printed out for me.
I am happy copying plans and making these  ships the old fashion way ! Personally I get a lot of Joy and Satisfaction making them and getting a lovely ship as a result. This particular model from working out the dimensions, drawing the plans out on the Plastic Card  cutting out and sticking it together to painting it in Primer grey, just over 24 hrs and that included going to work too !

Excellent work Miles

At the risk of being labelled an old fuddy duddy I agree that there is a lot to be said for putting stuff together for your own satisfaction. I also happen to think it is really good for one's mental health.

Hi Andy,
I do agree, even if it's building a simple kit, the concentration on details is very beneficial.

Hi Miles,
Very good work.

Best wishes,

I wholeheartedly agree, you do get that really good "vibe" after completing something like this. Probably some of it is wrong ? Slightly too big here or wrong shape here ? But it looks right so that's good enough for me, as it is a Wargames piece ! Be even better when I ve painted her next week.

I think the skillsets for 3D digital modelling and analogue sculpting are likely quite different.

For example, I can't sculpt well or do the kind of stuff that Miles has scratch-built here. But I have done technical drawing and, with time, feel quite confident that I could produce from scale plans a 3D file of something like these ships with lots of straight lines and regular curves. This is likely why there are so many 3D files of vehicles - particularly tanks - out there already.

Digital sculpting of figures is no doubt quite a difference skillset again...

Just my two penn'orth.
