I always dilute the GW washes with their medium, find it gives a much better finish with out the staining. Generally I do about half and half.

If you don't want to pay GW prices, Artists Mat Medium works very well.

Leman (Andy)

A very useful tip, as for some reason I have some, but never knew what to do with it.  :o

I use what I ve got and generally buy the colour that I need. Rather than the brand. But Les pointed out a while back about "SecretWeapon" which at sometime I must invest in. AP I find is good for figures. Of course there is always the good old get the colour and water it down.

I buy the ones that line up/stack nicely.
The Vallejo ones  tumble around a lot more

I used to make my own washes with Matt medium but since discovering AP strongtone don't consider it worth the effort.

Similar experience for me Neil, with the GW washes.
