There has been a long gap of a few months since I had a wargame of any description, owing to the table being used for other things, including my Dutch lessons, the focus on painting up WotR figures and scenic items, and the long bouts of very hot weather. However, I have now set up  and embarked on a Walter Schnaffs game using a Grant and Asquith scenario of a French rearguard trying to get supplies away across a bridge before being overwhelmed by the superior Prussian pursuing force. The french were lucky as they drew some very favourable cards allowing them to have additional assets and improve two units to professional status (a line unit became professional Turcos and the chasseurs a pied became professional).
Owing to the scenario the scenario the game is being played along its four foot lengthe rather than the three foot width. Further, as I do not yet have ten wagons I have positioned two some distance from the bridge, each with a green dice. They get to turn this once every game move, starting on four. After reaching 1 the dice will be removed at the end of that turn and the wagons can start moving. The bridge cannot be blown until all French troops are safely across, including the wagons, thus the French in the smaller village must try to hold off the Prussians until the wagons can get underway. This is how the game looks after one turn, at the end of which the French luckily threw a 6.

That "just fits"  nicely in Andy.
Very nice.
There might be some Dutch wargamers near you, but this hobby is  so subterranean.

I may have to rethink/replay this one. At the end of the first three turns the French defenders rolled 6,6,5. The turn clock now shows 4 with the French falling back hotly pursued by the Prussians and very few casualties on both sides despite successful barrages all round and French chasepot fire.

That is a very nice-looking set-up you have there, Andy!

Almost everything on the table I managed to bring with me, other than the road, cloth cut out from Geek Villain, and the hills, via Etsy from France. The cloth is my favourite one for Square Bashing and Regiment of Foote, which Martin made available a few years back now. It has seen a great deal of service since then: 5'x3' with 6" squares.
