This may seem a bit "previous" but at some point shows will be part of the calendar again.

At one point PP was doing over 30 shows a year in those pre internet days.

I am considering cutting back on most shows as I do not feel able to heave stuff about and exert myself too much.
Probably cutting back to about 3 shows a year.
Criteria will be whether the weather and light is good enough for the trip. I find night time driving very difficult indeed.

I might attend some shows with just a game, as that is easier physically and we still get to meet people and chat about various PP things.

I will also need to see how participation games fit into shows over the next couple of years. Maybe they will be discouraged for safety reasons?

This is not a negative post but an airing of a  re-evaluation of the use of available resources :)

Martin,

Thank you for the "heads-up" - that sounds like an eminently sensible approach.

Fingers crossed that shows will be able to restart safely soon,

Yes it will be interesting to read reports from the shows planned later this year.
Will Traders allowing punters to handle stock?
Will Gamers allow public to play with their toys?

Bovington has a one way system and .limited numbers may change for their Tiger days.

Hammerhead (Newark) is scheduled for 31st July, my group are taking a Dark Ages game. Hammerhead has always had the all participation games policy so I'll be happy to report on what happens there in just over 5 months time.

I had my 1st vaccine jab today 😊 due to being on the clinically vulnerable list although I don't think of myself in that way.

Best wishes,

Martin B it will be interesting to hear from you as to how the show feels and what the organizers fell obliged to apply to the visitors and traders.

Well, if the government is to be believed and all goes as per the road map, there will be no legal requirement for social distancing.

Whether there remains advisory measures remains to be seen. Most importantly if events decide to have measures in place then they should be adhered to but it looks like here will be no obligations in general.

Whether the paying puic will have confidence and indeed the traders as well also remains to be seen.

I think it will be the traders that might be the ones that probably  be the difficult ones to coax back to the shows. As Martin has said before most are in the upper age ranges and shopping has now gone more online. The General Public will be easy to coax back and I think will very quickly go back to old ways.
It will be interesting how shows do go over the next few months, what will become the "normal" protocols for everyone to adhere to etc.
I see Tankfest is going ahead in September, do you think Bovington will put on a Modelling and/or Wargames show this year ?

I think that's a good analysis, Miles.

Nice to see that you are pacing yourself Martin. I think with shows you can get sucked into going to more and more. Sometimes you have to stand back and analyse what you get out of them for the effort put in. I suspect that a lot of traders now have had increases in their on line business and they probably won't rush back to shows for obvious reasons. New traders and those whose sales rely on more tactile aspects will probably come back to shows. I would agree with you about the number of shows you attend. Do you need to do Colours and Warfare when they are only two months apart? Also if you "just take a game" to show, perhaps you could advertise a click and collect at show service (as now) and/or an order at show for next week postage free delivery and perhaps bring along samples of recent ranges to display etc.
