WOTR art by Graham Turner

I follow the work of Graham Turner with great interest.
He works under the title "Studio 88".
I expect may of us here have seen them in the Osprey WOTR campaign books.

I find his wars of the roses paintings to be the best reference for sculpting WOTR figures.

My last year "before COVID" walking trek was going to be Bristol to Tewkesbury tracing the route (some of it goes along the cotswold way).  I currently live in Gloucester so sort of half way and my Mum still lives in Chalford and I was born in stroud which is also mentioned on the route march.

Interesting that - one of my best mates from uni days came from Stroud. I also found the battlefield of Tewkesbury made for a very interesting walk. Handy having a brother who lives in Clevedon.

I will go further and say I love the entire family! The Turner motor racing images have made it to my walls and I like everything they do. The town scenes from the WOTR series put me right there.

I like these a lot but I have to say I find my chief inspiration is from The Medieval Soldier, by Gerry Embleton and John Howe

What lends realism to both John Howe's medieval and fantasy illustrations is that he knows how it is worn and how the weapons are used from his interest in historical recreation. Both authors are depicted in several of the photographs in this fascinating book which sheds light on some little known parts of C15 campaign life.

Martin, its the 144p hardback packed full of full colour photos of the 'Company of Saynte George', 'Wolfbane', 'The White Company', 'The Black Prince's Household' and '1471' reenactment/history groups photographed in Switzerland, France & Germany. A wealth of detail and inspiration for those interested in the period.

That's a very good book. I got mine from a charity shop in Grimsby for a £1, I was so pleased with it that I went back and gave them some more money as they didn't know it's value.

I also recommend it, well worth tracking down a copy.Martin
