Flags were used  sometimes in actual battles. I think they were not always used in the front line by infantry as they attract fire. Do players want to have flag bearers?

Wherever historically plausible - yes please, as they look cool.

Ideally a ready supply of flags for the flagpoles would also be available to complement the flag-bearing models, for the artistically challenged (like me).

I agree. Flags do look good on the war games table; provided I don't have to paint them.

Also agree... like having them...But also hate trying to paint them.

would like to add a bunch for the federales, and a few for the revolutionaries

Looking at the relevant chapter in Mike's excellent book, I'd say flag bearers are essential. Let's hope someone with more talent than I can be persuaded to produce a downloadable sheet or similar as some of the designs are quite complex!

Stuart at Maverick Models has been very patient producing a large number of ECW flags for me: I can heartily recommend his services. I'm sure he would be happy to produce them, if you can provide images for him to work from.

I found the WotR flags via PP really useful. Perhaps something similar here?

In the short term I will produce a generic set of flags and pit them on the PP site for free.
Similar to the SCW ones I did.  August I think.
Useful?
martin :)

Nick

Yes, that is definitely helpful Martin.
Thank you,

Very useful Martin.

Mike's book has a large section on flags too. That can help guide me.

Photographs of US cavalry show them on the march flying their guidons, so it would be nice to have those.
