I love PITS as an elegant yet quirky system - it pushes all the right buttons for me - BUT I have yet to see a British force complete a mission. They all seem to die, honourably, but horribly. Is it just me? Or maybe I'm missing something? Can anyone give me some tips on winning with Brits?

Hopefully,

I have won with British, keep units together and if possible away from scenery that may contain hidden enemy.

British firepower and mutual support!

Played a game over the piggy weekend in Weymouth.
The carry the flag scenario.
The Brits got over the line with minimal casualties.
All were mounted, and stuck with their tasks. Most did die but the ones carrying the flag were not distracted and finished the mission.

Great game with Big Mike and run by Stewart.

Today 29th Feb 2020.
I played two games today.
1 draw and one Brit victory.
The game result often "hinges" on the performance of the dervish veteran unit.

Such a unit can massacre brits. This is more true if they use the fanatical card.
If this Dervish unit can be neutralised by shooting the game will often swing toward the brits.

In game 1 the brits lost 2 units to morale.  Bad luck.
In game 2 the brits scoured most of the scenery and thus restricted the dervish appearances.

None of this is scientific, but more chatty.

It was a brutal period. So the potential for causalities is very high on both sides. Like Stewart says keep the British together and mutual support and they can be devastating.
Could these rules be a basis for Boer War Guerrilla tactics ???

British I've to keep their distance from the Dervish. I played in the game at the Weekender. It is a tough game but no one said war was easy 😂

I think PITS would work well for the British in India and the North West frontier. More figures please Martin? An Indian Mutiny range and a North West Frontier range. I'm sure you have plenty of free time and not much on the sculpting table!!!!!!!

From the experience of the 3 games at yesterday's PITS day, I'd say that its important for the British to use probably 4 scouts.  They have an edge in scouting and can pretty well deny the Dervishes anywhere to appear/hide.  In the morning the British got only 3 bases back from Mission 1 but still squeaked a draw.  In the 2nd game (same mission) they squeaked another draw but got lots more back so I'd rate it as more difficult for the Dervishes to win - though that may be (a) I'm a crap player (b) taking advice from Martin  ;)

Rolling dice has successfully as Ben would also really help a British player  :) :)

I hear Ben rolls the fastest 6's in the (south) west!
