Typical buildings for the land raid game

Thinking about this the other day. I had always thought that buildings in 18th century Port Royal or Nassau for instance would be similar to the Mediterranean style with pantile roofs and rendered walls. I think this line of thinking must have come from the Gary Chalk articles in Wargames Illustrated years ago when he showed how to scratch build a town for Pirates.

But from pictures I can find on the internet there is a real mash of styles from plantation style houses to timber framed houses to mud huts. I'm wondering what style to go for to populate my land raid board. I'd like to make it look really nice and eye catching as opposed to just using any old buildings I can lay my hands on.

Anyone any thoughts?

I think with the expanding empires of the Europeans you can have any type you like.
I have 3 Spanish type (important) 1 long hut (Barracks) and 7 huts/houses.
For Natives 3 dark ages triangle type (important) 1 school house (Vietnam) barracks and 7 round huts (AK47) just so the types are different and stand out on the table.

Cheers Stewart. I coming to think a mix of styles would be good.

I may well be making some pirate buildings.

However, they would mostly be of Northern European style.  This means tudor type.  Beams, tiles and wood.  Shutters were very common. Hollywood pirate makers do like Spanish style. Such style is in the minority but that is not a criterion for them. Look at the free PP building i sent out for some inspiration.

If you do decide to do Spanish style buildings, they can then be used for SCW though.

Given that Black Sails is my main source of "history" for what I'm hoping to achieve, these images of 18th century buildings from Nassau might be useful? As would lots of pink paint, it seems!

The other popular search term for Nassau etc would be  New providence.

I do like that Pink, may have to repaint my buildings. Been to Bermuda a view times and forgot how brightly coloured some house are.
