Watched the film this morning. Some good shooting scenes no hand to hand and I thought the film very slow, so slow in fact even the horses walked most of the time. Hope you enjoy it when/if you go.

Hostiles is very much a spin off (many of same actors and same cinematography) as Godless
Haven't seen Hostiles yet but Godless was good (a bit Hollywood )

I saw this too the other day ... It was good. Grim, but good.  Bucking the current movie trend of immortal heroes, having real sense of fatality.

I am allergic to political correctness so I usually try to avoid the trash which Hollywood has been churning out non-stop for the last couple of decades. However, because of the reviews found here I made time to watch Hostiles.

Hostiles wasn't a bad effort (even the politically correct message it was sending to the couch potatoes was handled in a discreet manner. Probably more deadly ) and I think it was well paced for the story it was telling. Those looking for lots of shoot outs and gratuitous violence should probably stick with John Wayne or Clint Eastwood movies. I give Hostiles a thumbs up.

I have ordered Scalp Dance: Indian Warfare on the High Plains, 1865-1879 from Amazon in order to learn more about this period because up to now I have only been familiar with the Plains Wars through John Wayne films.

Read it a good few years ago. Pretty gruesome stuff describing what both sides did to each other.

My favourite and highly recommended read is 'Bury my heart at wounded knee'. I've seen it described as a bit sentimental but gives a good history with lots of voice given to the Indian tribes.
