Stewart has  delivered new mats to the POE players. Thanks Stewart.  The hex grid is very subtle. I find it quite hard to see but think that is my poor eyesight. Once i get used to the subtlety I think they will be perfect. I might cut out the haf hexes but fear the cloth might fray?

Looks like 5x3 is to be the set size for POE sea fights.

Land raids
6 squares x4 squares. If the squares are 4inch. This gives a 24 inch by 16 inch table size. If this happens, then there is a lot of potential for one piece layouts (although scenery can change around every game). Maybe buy a  wargame tile company and manufacture 24x16 inch tiles?
One possibility ,might be three 16 inch by 8 inch strips that can be universal in their link up. This would give 6 permutations if one end of a strip must be harbour/coast.. Enough? Otherwise 48!

My only comment on using 4" squares you will unable to use any other PP game scenery as it is 100mm square based.

And for the old land game you did use a lot of scenery,
Six squares will be used as the coastline/dockside.
18 squares must be filled as follows.
1 Square as the governors residence
2 Squares as the garrison's  barracks(adjacent squares)
1 Square as the treasury
1 Square as the shore battery(must be adjacent to a coastline square)
5 Squares as the town (shops, houses, warehouses)
3 Squares as the rough quarter of town(adjacent squares at least one of which must touch a coastline square)
5 Open squares which are plazas or open areas for trade or stacking goods.
For a one peice terrain board this will not matter.

Is there any real need for such smaller squares for the land game? If we kept to 6" squares, the overall table would still only be 3' x 2', and as well as using existing scenery we could use cloths already sized for 5" x 6".

It might give an interesting feel to have the troops relatively dispersed compared to our normal games - perhaps quite appropriate for a raid?

There are probably similar considerations re. terrain for the mooted collaborative WW2 game?
