Cheap ships for playtesting

I'm very impressed by all the work going on by the like of Miles and Duncan to get their playtesting ships ready (and utterly stunned by the work of Lluis of Minairons, to which I could never aspire). And indeed, I would like to build my own fleet in due course. However, bitter experience has taught me that I stand no chance of getting a force done in time to use for meaningful playtesting.

Fortunately, the children have a bunch of the 3D card "Pirates of the Carribean" collectible pocket game models (which I got cheaply from eBay some time ago):

So, once my mat arrives, we'll be using these for summer holiday playtesting until I pluck up the courage to build my own fleet.

They go back a bit  and are maybe collectibles now?  They are the right size. made of foam type slip together stuff. I think there were some more exotic ships in there too.

They certainly seem way more expensive when I checked just now on Amazon and eBay! I also picked some up cheap at wargame shows. While probably not accurate or historical in any meaningful way, these ships are at least very quick to get ready!

Sounds like these need selling and invest in Martins ships great price and you may even end up with some change.

Like you waiting for the mat to arrive, getting ships and markers painted.

That is a very good point, Les! I still have some in their packets, so I assume they must be worth a small fortune.

I did buy a few of these to see what they were like. I do likecyou but wondered if they could be headed so that the chips name could be included for ease of play. I have not used them for playtesting but I think they are good little models, would be good for bigger battles perhaps where lots of ships of this size would make proper models prohibitively expensive?
