Had a game of western tonight.  US infantry versus gunmen.  Lots of shooting but no shooting massacres. I thought this to be  good. One assault when gunmen mounted charge the infantry field gun. Mutual carnage. The gun shot two bases as the mounted moved in.
Revived wounded worked well (my opinion).  Game was short in time and turns. 8 turns (4 each)  and 2 hour game length (short for play testing).
Army attackers won because they enhanced "casualties"  and holding the high ground.   Gunmen lost because they had a group shot to bits and did not hold the high ground.

A great play test game

thanks

My job is to make mounted forces more attractive.

Thanks Martin - really good to hear how things are evolving and your thinking behind those evolutions!

The attackers did extend for a 5th turn but didn't achieve much, wounded a base then decided not to,let the defenders have a turn and finished the game. Good game about 2 hours of game play and biscuit eating and about 15mins pre game and set up.
Things to consider
Artillery Needs a group to help defend it, if attacker guns can slow you down may consider leaving the guns on their own

Sounds like you all had a great game.

Any of the forces in the current edition of the rules that you have not tried yet?
