Does this get you thinking of 14th army???

Wardy64

My dad, served in Far East at the end of the war.

Also the end of the Germans in Normandy.

Final defeats here before the germans feared they would be encircled by the British and Polish from the north and the Americans from the south closing the advances at Falaise.

Went down to Sourdeval just down the road with a parade of standards and laying of wreaths to commemorate the liberation of the town.

The far east was indeed horrible. Unless you were in supplies/ordinance in India.

Sean Clark

My grandad was in India in Karachi at the AA school. He always felt lucky to have missed out on the front line but tinged with some guilt as his brother was in the thick of it.

And the 14th Army is on my 'to do list.

Colonel Kilgore

All something of a taboo subject in our household...

Leslie BT

What the wargaming or the household 'to do lists' or the painting of another army?

Colonel Kilgore

More to do with having a relative being on the losing side...

Be very interesting to know the family thoughts on their perspective?  Trouble with most wars is that the normal folk get swept up with no choice in the matter. I expect that in the ACW/ECW you just joined the same side/unit as your friends and locals.

Colonel Kilgore

Martin,

I'm sure that was the case here too (and mercifully it was a non-combat role).

But it's taboo so we don't talk about it :)

I will be using 14th army  for my Men of Company B scenarios,, japs are NVA  - alls good.
